  • I love you tailoring!

I know this feeling will pass. I know I'll spend more countless hours cursing the skill to the fiery oblivions of the darkest pits of the inferno. Right now though.. ok it's not a big goal... It's not like hitting 250 skill or maxing all trades. But it's something I've wanted, something I've gone GIMMIE over since I found out we could make 100% 10 slot wt reduction bags. My little halfer druid finally finished the type 2 ribbons after oh, I'd guess around 340 cauldron dyes (let us not mention cauldrons again in this post).

So I figured with my 187+ geerlok skill I could either dive into the pure hell that is solstice robes (yuck! I just like to do the subcombines for that, the robes themselves are too depressing and y'know, profit sucking). Or I could be completely irrational with my precious acorns and BDs and do a few attempts at haversacks before I convince myself it's a bad idea. Well, I succeeded on first attempt, and got a skillup! And succeeded on the second one as well! No drug can feel as good as making something in EQ that you will actually use on your main character. Especially not when you were absolutely expecting failures.

...of course now I'm going to be paranoid about doing combines for the rest of the month because I know how these things work... But that doesn't matter right now, I feel giddy. I love tailoring.

I have had a sickeningly good rate with haversacks, I have made over 50 of them, and I think I have failed a total of three times. Made my first at 190 skill and now I am 250 skill < they are trivial when I have my trophy in hand, triv at 251 >

They are nice bags with a nice success rate, enjoy!

It is a great feeling, I still wear the belt I made for myself a long time ago.

It's very true, when you suceed at making something with your skill, that you intend to actually use, it's a great feeling

I tried a haversack when I was at 184 skill, was so nervous I didn't put enough furs in the kit and made a Leatherfoot Backpack instead. Tickled me to death that it succeeded I still carry that backpack and will never sell it.

Mwahahha, yes, I do enjoy doing the subs for solstice robes! It's relaxing in a mind numbing sort of way, very good way to relax after a complicated day. And I get to make a profit when I sell the subcombined parts to people with too much plat.

Since I always end up with pp after these subcombines I've conditioned myself to associate solstice robe subcombines with good happy fluffy things that go la la la in fields of flowers. It's sick and wrong, I know. The thought of actually making the final combine is becoming more difficult due to that though.

Now I have to print out 80 pages of inventory lists so I can watch TV while I sort through all these mules and figure out where I put over a year's worth of farming and vendor buying of various supplies. I know I have these things, I just have no idea where I have them and have no idea what I'll try to make next until I know how much I have of these things. Man, what I'd do for a program or excel script that with the press of a button could take all the inventory text files from various characters and combined them into a more coherrent list...

Run Magelo on all your mules.

Save files to folder in txt format.

Get Excel. Open first txt. Go to the part where it lists all the stuff in alphabetical order. Copy it.

*gets fuzzy on details* it's been a while since i've done this.

I think you paste into excel, then go to Data -- Text to Columns... fiddle around with the settings there till you have the ID#, the name, the Qty, etc, all in separate columns.

What I do is delete what i don't want (ID#), then make a column on the right side and drag fill with the name of the alt it's on. all my alts have colors too (highlight and RC - Format Cells - Patterns).

Do this on the same sheet with all your alts. Then sort by alpha.

                Bing!

At least, that's the basic gist. If that made NO SENSE WHATSOEVER which it probably didn't, yammer and I'll go through again and give better instructions. It's been hayella long since I've actually done that. But it's SOOOO HELPFUL. /nod/nod.

/nod that's what I've been doing so far. I've been using the EQ /output file option though since it's easier for me than the magelo and imports quite well. Problem is it does take a lot of manual work. As I was on alt number 17 (don't ask) I started thinking how cool it would be if you could set up an excel file with a seperate sheet for each character. With that sheet updating itself from the inventory text file at the press of a button, then have a totals sheet that pulled inventory data from each indvidual sheet, and of course added source character column to show which character had the item but discarded any worn items and any duplicate shared bankslots. And possibly discard empty slots as well. That way all you'd have to do would be to import a new version of a character's inventory, tell it to update the linked data in the totals sheet, and then sort the totals sheet and print that out.

I know you can do autoupdated linking from other excel files, but I'm not sure how to do it from another sheet in the same file or if it's possible to autoimport a text file into an excel sheet. I must have got to pester my excel/access experts to find out if this is possible, it would save a lot of copy paste.

Someone here on EQTC actually posted an excel sheet that will import the magelo txt files and allow you to play with them.

I wish i could remember who it was. It was only a few weeks ago though. Maybe someone with a better memory than me can post a link to that thread.

                      Getting Magelo output into Excel

This may be messy, but it works.

                      1) Open a blank Notepad
                      2) Open a magelo output file
                      3) In the magelo file, at the start of the inventory list, right before the |, type the character's name.
                      4) Highlight the entire inventory list, including the character name.
                      5) Copy.
                      6) Paste into blank notepad file.
                      7) Add a blank line at the end of the inventory in the new file.
                      8) Repeat steps 2 through 7 for each magelo file. You should end up with a big honkin' Notepad file containing all inventory.
                      9) Save this Notepad file someplace you won't forget about it. I use my Desktop, and name it "magelodump.txt"
                      10) Open MS Excel, and tell it to open magelodump.txt
                      11) When the Import Wizard comes up, change the option to DELIMITED, and select the vertical bar ("|") as the delimiting character.
                      12) The name of the character with the item will be in the first column, BUT it will only show up in the first row for that character. SO copy it into the first column for that character's entire inventory. Repeat for each character.

Voila! Now you can sort your inventory by item name, by magelo ID, or name of character. I usually go through the file and remove all rows containing NO DROP items, or items that I'm not interested in shuffling around.

CAVEAT: This procedure assumes that you have current magelo dumps for all your characters.

CAVEAT: Magelo does not seem to pick up items in shared bank slots.

                      Enjoy!
