My girlfriend, who doesnt play EQ nearly as much as i do, was at her work in a cafe in a bookstore... and she was trying to open a jar. Eventually she had to have a male co-worker open it for her, as she said to herself ' I need more STR gear'.

Preactivating prepaid phones and not giving security codes for them (or just the fact that they loose them and notwant to take the blame) does that to people.

We already get financial aid award adjustment request letters that say things like:

"BTW, my MIL and FIL live w/us, so we have 2 pay 4 there expenses 2. PLZ PLZ take this into acct when looking @ my finaid. K?

(Please note: this is an *example*, not from an actual students letter. Prexus knows that I don't want a FERPA lawsuit for my office because I posted on a EQ board )

The thing is, these are *business letters* they are writing to request more money - often a lot more money.

Remember the Ebonics trend? Some education pundits are suggesting "AIM-bonics" to teach educators how to deal with electronic shortcuts, or whatever we're calling things like "kthxla~"

EQ-ism in Real Life

Here's my real life EQ-ism. I was at a neighbor's house helping with a birthday party for his kid, and after a while I noticed that one of the neighbor's kids who wasn't invited (but who everyone didn't mind being there) was in playing with the rest of the party. Without even thinking about it, I turned to my neighbor (a non-EQ player), and said...

"You got an add."

He looked at me like I was speaking another language. Which I suppose I was.

While this isn't nearly as good as those the rest of you have, it still makes our roommate chuckle and me smile when we think of it.

Let me try to briefly preface by saying that the largest EQ characaters my hubby & I play are vah shir. We've noticed, and I truly don't mean to denigrate, but truly have noticed that ogre players can choose some very inconvenient places to stand, particularly in PoK or the bazaar, and often go AFK in these places or seem to step in front of you no matter where you are trying to go. So a common curse while in game, especially while trying to bank or similar is "*#&%$ Ogres!"

Again, truly no offense meant to those who play ogre characters. I'm fairly certain most of the offenders are kids or others learning to play EQ on a durable race. So pls don't flame me for this.

Anyway...one of our roomies plays eq, but the other, his girlfriend doesn't but is very familar with our talk about it. She & I go to the video store one afternoon. A rather large fellow, like linebacker size, and a couple of others exit their car as we're getting out of mine. We are closer to the door, but since no one is waiting for anyone, the party of three or four including the big guy looks likely to try to force their way between roomie & me as we enter. So I step back and let them finish going into the store. This behavior continues, with the big guy stepping in front of me at nearly every turn, even though I am consciously trying to avoid him. As we finally get into the car with our video rentals a bit later I find my self muttering "*#&%$ Ogres!"

My roomie says "Huh?" not thinking I possibly could have said what she thought I said. So I repeated "*#&%$ Ogres!" which cracked her up.

But the paper towels and the customers were the best ones in my opinion. Just had to share.

Strange EQ-ism

My G/F was telling me about the woman who recently broke some swimming record. She had a diver following her, watching for sharks. At one point apparently he disappeared to deal with a great white. "Kill it" according to my G/F.

So of course I say, "There's no way a diver could solo a great white.... I mean he must have just scared it off." And she looks at me with that funny, knowing look, and just keeps talking.

I have been living in my current place for about 2 years now. My roomate and I both play EQ(but he quit a year ago) and I actually met them in EQ, so as friends we live together. After 2 years he still calls me Suva instead of by my name. I don't think he has ever used my actual name.
