Of course no one brings up the fact that his songs are going for 30k... I guess it's okay to gouge us with drop stuff but not to complain if someone wants to charge 20k more for a ring....

I'd be doing the same thing with baking, but not nearly with the same success since I've seen some of my wanted cleric spells in the bazaar for 50k.... and baking is already flooded with low prices.

Actually, EQ is an interesting study in a very specialized economic model. For anyone particularly interested in economics or finance, you should consider writing a white paper on this environment. You could almost make a career out of it.

Consider this; supplies are created in the environment out of nothing. Items and platinum drop from monsters killed. The effect of "free" resources is infinite deflation over time. Whether you take advantage of a market in the short term with aggressive pricing or you draw it out with an agreement, in the end all items in the game lose value.

To date, the designers' only solution to this problem has been an escalation of power and No Drop. Escalation will only delay the inevitable. No Drop defeats the purpose of an economy involving players. The only real answer to the problem is consumption.

To introduce a real economic model to EQ would require items that are used up. Things break in the real world. That is one of the reasons we work so hard; work fights entropy.

Note that this does not have to be done in an unpleasant fashion. Tithes to guilds or other faction sources ("Sure you are a Knight. What have you done for me lately?"), maintenance quests with consumed pieces ("We need 100 forged fiery swords for our war against the ice goblins. If we dont get them, Halas will be overrun."), non-item rewards (exp and faction) for items ("I wonder what the Dain will think if I give him this chest piece from the Chief? [You have gained experience!]"). Already, some of these things have been implemented in game in a minor way. Bone chips to the guildmasters of Kaladim isn't going to cut it though. There needs to be real ways to prevent trickle down, obsolescence, and farming.

In short, you should get your profits while you can. Eventually, there won't be any profits. If you can reach a gentleman's agreement to hold the line against deflation, you might be able to hold it off for a short time. Eventually someone will either take advantage of you or dropped items will squeeze you out.

      Have a nice day.

Try that kind of thing on Xegony...

        1) Tradeskillers are everywhere on Xegony.
        2) Very few people sell the more rare Tradeskill components. The people who hunt in the areas these drop give them to the Tradeskillers in their Guild/Alliance.
        3) Tradeskillers work together (generally ) on Xegony. New items usually start priced high, then either slowly fall or rise (if they sell fast).
        4) On Xegony, a Ring of Flowing Slime goes for 30k. Seems to me that an all/all Ring that is very comparable to a hybrid-only ring should go for more money.
