  • Plat duping and hyperinflation - beware

This is a very disturbing thread recently started on the Monkly Business web site and it confirms what I have been seeing on the Torvonnilous server recently and no doubt on most other servers too.

    http://pub147.ezboard.com/fmonklybus...ID=42694.topic

My recommendation is to dump your plat savings (if any) into some good gear if you can still find it at resonable prices and hang on to it and your other gear until this mess is sorted out by Sony.

Looks hokey and stinky to me. Doubtful that it is a real issue.

While traditionally a lot of these "plat duping!" threads are just trying to scare people and/or get them to do something benificial for the instigator ... I've been hearing enough of these from different sources (not blatantly from the same origins), and combined with having a few people who I have a reasonable level of faith in recount first hand experiences that support it, has gotten me actually tending to believe that such a problem, more likely than not, does exist.

          Dang botters.

Prices are going up, but I'm not forgetting that roughly 6 to 12 months ago, there was a HUGE drop in prices on everything.

I guess there was a wave of people skilling up, levelling up etc, they wanted to sell all the old gear, the market was flooded, prices dropped. Now, less people selling, prices are going up. I've made a few investments with my trader.

          Perfect example;
          Hero Bracer
Many classes, many races, AC9, Str+10, Sv Disease & Poison +5

When I first joined KB about a year and a half ago, they were selling for 250-400. Not great, but not bad. Then something happened, either everyone discovered something better, better drops, or just plain upgrading, they dropped all the say down to as low as 7pp each. Yes, 7PP. Prices stayed below 20PP for over 6 months.

I just checked the prices now, 350PP. Seems that even though they're going up, they're just going ot levels that they were at before the slump.

(Also notice that the prices started going up, which means people are spening more, since the gov't said that the economy is getting better, DOW is up etc..?)

          (added)
Don't forget, more higher level players getting these rare drops, that means that more people will be selling them and that will help keep prices down a little.

            Incomming black helicopters!

Follow me down the rabbit hole. SOE realized economies on servers have been FUBAR for years. No item decay, and no way to take plat out of the economy (it drops faster than NPC's will buy it...), thus prices continue to fall on most goods as nore of the old ones go away when new ones drop.

Solution: SOE reps in disguize generate millions of billions of platinum, go to the bazaar, and begin buying up all the items that they can get ahold of, regardless of cost. Destroy the items. Lather rinse repeat. Until Bazaars over all the servers are wiped clean of dropped twink gear, uber gear that was too prevalent, etc... then wipe the servers plat, thus removing all the items AND all the pharmed stuff that are fueling the people selling plat outside the game.

Back to my aluminum foil beanie business.....

-edit: I for one will be turning most of my plat into stacks of vendor sold gems as soon as possible.

I can't remember where I heard this, but I was hearing that alot of the plat duping was from a mob in the Deep that was dropping ALOT more than he was supposed to, and alot of people were camping in for it, and racking up millions of plat in days. Also heard they were banned for it. But I know there is alot of plat flowing around, trying to be sold.

I have heard this on a board that I trust the sources... there does seem to be a HUGE problem with inflation that seems to indicate that there is some duping being done... SINGLE pieces of LDoN armor being sold for 350000 plat... and actually selling... people OFFERING that pice...

                Seems something is actually up.

Well it seems MT is lucky in that nothing of the sort is happening. The prices there are at the same price they've always been (in many cases lower) for the highend items. Tradeskill stuff is expensive, but not drastically so...just annoyingly so. Spell prices went down, you can get flayed barbie leggings for 100k (where they used to be 200k) and it took me over 2 weeks to sell an item at 175k. So from my experience I can't see what they are talking about. However if helms of rallos zek are going for 700k on some server, I agree...something funky is going on there. Just glad it's not on my server *shudder*

Gonna go be nosey and check through the pricing on umm...-well I have the site bookmarked anyway for checking on a guildie that often buys plat *rolleyes*--that eq stuff selling site and see if there's truth in that part anyway.

**edit: Oh my LORD! Plat prices have gone BEYOND the basement straight down into hades. Yup, there's something SERIOUSLY messed up going on...and since 1000 of the last 1200 sales were by one well known person...

It seems like our (MT's) economy is a bit weird compared to other servers. Some of the price fluctuation people talk about doesn't touch us. However, the availability of a lot of the things people take for granted on other servers isn't there on ours, either.

In this case, that seems like it's a good thing. *knocks on wood*

Prexian economy did the exact opposite of plat prices. We've jumped up in the past month or two, drastically. And yes there are 100k+ items from LDoN on Prexus.

I wonder how much of this "Duped plat" was just someone buying and reselling Coldain tempers while the merchant was broken.

Making plat from that would just be a mater of how fast you could click on the stacks and buy/sell.

Nah, Xaan...cuz you couldn't sell the tempers back to the vendors. They didn't want em (I thought of that too hehe)

A while back, after a patch, on at least two servers, the sharks in Erudin were dropping some rediculous amount of plat I am told. Like 1 million each. I don't have first hand knowledge of this however, so take that for what it's worth.
