The only thing they need to make easier about the targeting system is to put names on top of some of the mobs that don't show them. Nothing worse than trying to split 3 or 4 wisps in MMC for a pull with my paladin and not being able to tell whether the one I'm about to cast a stun on is the one I've cast Pacify on.

And, of course, after moving far enough up that the Pacified one is far off screen to one side and attempting to target the one I want to pull, Cease will STILL land on that mob - bringing both.

"Fair" may be relative, but there's still a problem with slapping an automatic 200 SH on any noob. It goes beyond the 'Well, I didn't get that when I was little' petty jealousy issue.

If SOE sees SH as a 'problem' needing such a sweeping, massive 'fix' applied, I see a 'problem' with their definition of 'problem'.

      Rule of Thumb 1.
A For-Profit Company should never never attract new customers by using a method with a 'high' risk of alienating current customers. Why? The current customer is already paying... and especially in EQ's case with the free first month, the new customer is not. Yes, EQ needs to get that new customer, and they need to hook him long enough to START paying and KEEP paying, thus making him a 'current customer'...

But when the Noob becomes a Current, someday he realizes that SOE is still making changes, trying to attract more Noobs. Suddenly, he sees himself NOT as a Noob, but as a Current, and begins to resent SOE for 'fixin what aint broke', rather than pay attention to 'what is broken'.

In short, everyone starts as a Noob and becomes a Current... and a player is a paying Current for a lot longer than he is a non-paying Noob. Put your effort where your money is, SOE.

Is Automatic 200 SH going to make anyone stop playing EQ1? In and of itself, I hope not. But SOE's attention to the miniscule nits speaks to a larger problem...

They're not paying attention to the REAL Problems.

      Rule of Thumb 2.
When you have PAYING Customers, you listen to them. You take their requests into consideration, weed out the radicals and illogicals, and make what is truely a better product.

Slight side-track, illustrating a compnay who's 'gotten it right':
I favor a certain clear non-caffinated carbonated beverage who's name begins with 'S'... and not because of any one single advertisment or gimmick they've ever done. I like their product. It tastes good, it doesn't coat my teeth or leave funny aftertastes, and it IS non-caffinated. (Caffiene + Sanna = needs a straight-jacket. ^_^) I like it not because of anything they have ever done, except made a product that I like and am willing to continue buying.

I know of 2 people, one of whom has 1 EQ account, the other of whom has at least 4, who have both told me they are not only going to not play EQ2, but when EQ2 comes out, they're going to stop EQ1. Grats SOE, you just lost yourself $65 a month. Not much as is, maybe, but how many others across the country will follow suit?

And the reason given by one of these people? "It's just not fun anymore... they meddle too much. The GMs give you the run-around, and SOE, I don't know what they're trying to do anymore." I told him, heh they're trying to make money. He shrugged and said something to the effect of 'sooner or later, they're going to stop getting mine'.

I'm not trying to say EVERYthing SOE does to 'fix' EQ is wrong. I love shared bank/plat, just to name one. But there are so many other legitimate issues to be looked at... missing quest NPCs, broken quest combines, my gosh, the one dev thought an entire race had cultural and it wasn't in the game? I can believe that a workplace like SOE is huge and therefore a madhouse on a daily basis, but come on... After a while it stops being chinks in the facade and starts being huge gaping holes in the wall.

And they want to fix something that's a 'bore' to 'noobs', by taking it away entirely and just handing them a silver spoon? No. Sense Heading isn't broken enough for me to swallow their spoonful of sugar on this one. There are things more important that they need to look at, and if they can't see em, they need to hire someone who can. And for once, I don't (necessarily) mean me.

Give Noobs a no-drop bag, sure. Heck, do what the one guy said and give em ND bait and ND fishing pole! The only thing I ever beg for when I start new chars on new servers is 5 plat so I can go buy me some boxes and carry more than 6 things at once.

      But Auto 200 SH?

Life is Hit-and-Miss, I know. This one, tho, is definately a miss.

Time for this thread to quietly shuffle off it's mortal coil. Too much a "****ed of you do, ****ed if you don't" sort of issue.
