The idea of eliminating food and drink in the bazaar has been tossed around; I remember a similar thread dealing with it recently. I think it came down to there being some exploit or some such regarding that. You can try the search feature if you want to read up on it; "bard song bazaar" should bring it up.

Repeated casting of spells, including bard songs, can and will spam folks with slower connections offline. Therefore, petition and GMs will world kick the offender.

And it doesn't matter that it's possible to turn off the messages or shunt them aside, the casting of the song over and over in a heavy lag area, seen or not, will still cause the lag and can still cause people to loose connection and is a kickable offense.

My trader is also a bard. I also have baked goods and brewed items on her I do not want her to eat. I play the sustenence song also since I have been kicke dout of trader mode before too. It's not too often, but it's happened. Lev a person and it's much easier to push them, especially i f the stall you set up in starts getting more crowded.

I do know you cannot start the song once trader mode is on. I also try and set my trader up way back by an arena entrance to spam the fewest people.

Traders also get moved when people "log in" very close to where the Trader is. I've seen people get pushed on top of the stalls and out into odd places because of it.

If these yahoos are doing combat songs, then what if you were to have a newby bard in the bazaar that you used on occassion to play combat songs near merchants/guards and then you happened to have kited them past this bard and sadly got caught and died right within the AOE of his damage song?

I'm not sure, but I don't think it's possible to even aggro the guards in the bazaar, let alone kite them.

I know you can't just attack them to aggro them.

                  humbug

I sell food and drink on my trader as well. Obviously, I don't want to eat/drink my wares, so what do I do? I put two stacks of food and drink on top of everything else so I eat the rations, or muffins or whatnot and leave the rest alone.

My main is a 64 bard, and I have never felt the need to spam the bazaar with song while afk- heck, I don't even like to play my speed song goign through due to lag. They drive me nuts too.

While the LoY quest songs have great graphics, I can't stand to be next to some flute wielding elf who insists of making little white ghosts eminate from his arse for hours on end. Gah!

Turn your songs off! No one else wants to hear them!

Yes. That is true. No one is disputing that.

What I and another are saying is that sometimes, you get bumped out of trader mode. And when that happens, you start chowing down again.

You know, I don't have any problem with bard songs or other spell effects lagging my system. But that *could* be that when I go into trader mode, I turn all spell effects off (which has, for the longest time now, turned them off server-side, not client side.. i.e., the information isn't even coming down the pipeline to you!)

The bazaar is bad enough with hundreds of people... I'm not crazy enough to leave spell graphics on. I also, as of a *long* time ago, restricted bard song messages to group only.

                          Dont shoot the bard!

Its been banded around for a long time (well since the bazaar was released) about bards casting songs in it.

Its all down to bard coding and the refresh of songs.

On certain songs , once its started you can do anything you like, fight mobs, target other mobs target friends, do tradeskills, just so long as you dont stop the song or try to sing another.

Its part of the coding right from the word go the coding has been like that. Ive played my bard since 1999.

There have been a lot of discussions with GM's and VI/SOE staff over the topic of bards and this ability. It was considered by other casting classes as an exploit that a bard can start a song and then go /afk and get skill ups (each re-tick checks the skill)

After a lot of hashing around it was considered to NOT be an exploit and that it was really a sustained song.

As for the bazaar, they changed the AE resist spells to not have a graphic, changed teh AE mana song to the little blue balls rather than the big sparkles, so they have greatly reduced the lag a bard can produce if he was unscrupulous and was trying to LD traders.

If it was an AE dot spell, then the bard would of been getting a message for each person, and back in the old days you used to get 2 messages per person the spell landed on.

Thats all changed for the bard now, as we dont get undercon messages or double messages now, so we at least get less spam.

As for the song filter, from what i understand its online for a patch to be included to turn off the other resist messages.

its been hashed and flogged to death and i can see it changing, just wait for the filter to be added.

                            Hello-

Last night I had my first experience with a bard playing a song that tried to effect me in the bazaar.

As an aside - he was AFK, sitting in the back of one of the trader stalls NOT in trader mode. I'm not sure if he was trying to boot someone - but there were just over 100 trader positions open when I noticed it.

Anyhow, I ended up figuring a way around at least Seeing all the spam.

I created a new window, and used Filter, Spells, Failures to that window - then minimized it. Worked beautifully for me!

Just thought I would pass this tip on.
