  • sad news, bad news (WARNING: child tragedy)

My real-life boyfriend, Stormeraven, Dark Elf Wizard on Vallon Zek, got the worst news of his life on Sunday.

His youngest daughter, Charlie, age 3, who lived in Anchorage with her mother and four other siblings, died in an apartment fire. The family also lost everything they owned.

I've never met his little girl. Now I never will. The past few days have been a nightmare from here in Oklahoma; I can only imagine the horror of life up there.

In good news (or as good as news can be when little ones are taken from us)... the kindly people at a local church have gotten him a plane ticket for the funeral. Otherwise we wouldn't have been able to send him. I won't be going, due to work and finances.

Long before this, Phabos and I had planned our online marriage, feasting, and fun, and set the date for May 1. Unfortunately, the real-life RNG kicked me where it hurts, and May 1 will be the day of Charlie's funeral.

The wedding is off. The marriage is not. (See the thread in General Discussions about that.) If this whole ordeal has shown me anything, it's that human beings, even as a whole, are possessed of a surprising amount of compassion, love, and generosity. We have heard of literally hundreds of people praying for healing and assistance for his surviving little girl and the other members of her family.

If I've never thanked you all before, for your affection, support, and loans of a shoulder to cry on and/or scream at in frustration-- now I know how important it is to thank you. Thank you. Thank you from the bottom of my dark little cleric heart.

            Oh god.

Nhin, I hope you and BF are feeling better by the time you read this. Probably won't happen, but I can wish.

            Good thoughts coming your way.

I was going to post something here, but being a father, my eyes aren't cooperating.

This is short-shrift for what I feel, but:

There are no words to express how bad I feel for everyone involved.

My heart goes out to each and everyone of you that have had to go through this tragady. Just remember you have friends and lean on them when you need to.

                          ... it's completely inadequate, I know ... but it's all I have to offer.

I am sadend by the tragedy, and heartened by the church. (Yes they can be so helpful)

I was also struck by tragedy of this sort many years ago. My wifes brother-in-law had a falling out with her just before our wedding. He felt she shouldn't be marring me, "the gringo", and if she was going to do so, HE should be the one who walked her down the aisle. She had already asked another brother-in-law to do the honors. He left in a huff a month before our wedding and wasn't scheduled to return till afterwards.

Any to make a long story longer, While we were on our honeymoon, he returned via Avianca Airlines and died in a plane crash.

Life can play cruel tricks on you. You just have to know how to pick up and go on.

My daughter is 7 months old now (my first) and is everything to me. Whenever I hear of something like this, my heart feels so empty and weak. I wish you could spread out the emotion to all of us, so we could share it and ease your burden.

My thoughts are with your family.
