My real-life boyfriend, Stormeraven, Dark Elf Wizard on Vallon Zek, got the worst news of his life on Sunday.
His youngest daughter, Charlie, age 3, who lived in Anchorage with her mother and four other siblings, died in an apartment fire. The family also lost everything they owned.
I've never met his little girl. Now I never will. The past few days have been a nightmare from here in Oklahoma; I can only imagine the horror of life up there.
In good news (or as good as news can be when little ones are taken from us)... the kindly people at a local church have gotten him a plane ticket for the funeral. Otherwise we wouldn't have been able to send him. I won't be going, due to work and finances.
Long before this, Phabos and I had planned our online marriage, feasting, and fun, and set the date for May 1. Unfortunately, the real-life RNG kicked me where it hurts, and May 1 will be the day of Charlie's funeral.
The wedding is off. The marriage is not. (See the thread in General Discussions about that.) If this whole ordeal has shown me anything, it's that human beings, even as a whole, are possessed of a surprising amount of compassion, love, and generosity. We have heard of literally hundreds of people praying for healing and assistance for his surviving little girl and the other members of her family.
If I've never thanked you all before, for your affection, support, and loans of a shoulder to cry on and/or scream at in frustration-- now I know how important it is to thank you. Thank you. Thank you from the bottom of my dark little cleric heart.
