  • What preferences you have in making characters?

    I'm just curious on this one- What preferences do you have when making characters? On Maelin here's my 8 characters:

    71 Barbarian Beastlord- my main
    55 wood elf ranger- forage and tracker bot- 235 fletching
    48 vah shir shammie- Master alchemist I now completely regret making a kitty, I should have made a RZ ogre
    24 human monk- bazaar mule, former main 300 brewing
    29 human cleric
    16 gnome necro- 250 tinkerer
    32 drakkin SK- working to be first gm smith drakkin on the server- currently 222
    14 drakkin druid

    I have one of every leather class, every priest, and 5 out of 8 are humanoid!

    My hubby on the other hand has 3 high elves (wiz, ench, pally) 2 wood elves (druid, ranger) 1 half elf (bard) 1 barbarian (rogue) and 1 dwarf (warrior)

    So what preferences do you all have when filling your 8 slots? Are there any races you simply refuse to play?
    Heynanni Majere
    Barbarian Beastlady of Maelin Starpyre- 300 brewing, 300! tailoring, 300 smihing, and 200 everything else

    Marvy Lous- drakkin SK 300 smithing+smithing charm
    Jeign- 300 medicine stick'd alchemist+alchemist charm
    Heyarcher Forageur- 275 wood elf fletcher
    Dott- 300 Tailoring +tailor charm and ugly Bolt
    Shaleste- drakkin ranger 300 tailoring with ugly Bolt (did I mention that darn trophy is ugly?)

      I usually make a toon for a purpose, then after that purpose is served if it's no longer needed, I delete. Right now I have:

      69 Dark Elf Shadowknight - Syuni D'zpecyzczn - Main
      27 Drakkin Enchanter - Arrogance Absolute - Tradeskiller
      11 Drakkin Druid - Galatea - Forager In Training
      2 Iksar Shadowknight - Kolk - Bazaar Mule

        I started making alts that I would like to play, then I got so hooked on my main I made characters to help her get places and faction. I haven't leveled them enough though, cause I like to play her.

        Main 75 Iksar SK
        alts:
        10 Troll Bl (to help her long ago bind in Grobb to hunt in Rathe Mountains)
        30 Halfling druid , she's cute, bakes and was gonna be a porter. She also forages sometimes.
        5 Iksar Shammy , obviously help to an Iksar, but not at level 5, she holds my stuff
        8 Froglok Cleric, Cause my hubby made a cleric alt, his is 52, I didn't hold up to my end of the bargin. The froggy is a good fisherman.
        8 Vah Shir Bard, She is just fun, but the ghetto gate is so much fun, I dont have the heart to level her. She plays the tambourine and goes shopping for the Iksar.
        15 Eurdite Enchantress, She is also fun to play, but not as fun as my main. She enchants things for the Iksar.
        2 Drakkin Monk, bazaar mule figured I'd make a Drakkin

        My husband's main is a high elf wizard. He enjoys that class. He also has a ranger on my account, but I never let him get to my computer so he doesn't get a chance to box the cleric like he would like to. Now he play's D&D online. He likes his necro too. Sometimes I play his level 45 ranger, as she forages better than the druid and is closer to the sk in the style I can play her.

          65 Halfing Ranger is my main now (started him 5 yrs ago, 4 yrs of just foraging, but last 6 months he has become my main).
          70 Halfling Rogue old main & Master Artisan 2400
          53 Wood Elf Druid initially made just to imbue emeralds, now used as my vendor diver.
          51 HighElf Enc old character used for enchanting now my Baz Seller.
          55 Halfling Cleric for when I cant find a group on main.
          64 Erudite Nec for when I dont want to group.
          58 Gnome Mage one day will finish her tinkering now a mule.
          1 Troll Shaman Alchemy one day maybe but for now another mule.

          I wont play any race where you need to ask if their male or female, so no frogs and too a lesser extent no cats.

            On my primary account:

            73 Dwarven Cleric - my first character (probably my last too), also my Artisan
            62 Dark Elf Mage - orignially created to be a PK (I grew up on Rallos Zek), I didn't have the heart for it, now he's a fun alternate and my researcher
            55 Gnomish Enchanter - originally created to tradeskill, he got shelved until recently to be my tinker and short play alternate
            53 Iksar Shaman - originally from Sullon, my alchemist
            52 Wood Elf Druid - sometimes alternate, my sell/port bot before the bazaar
            33 Half-Elf Bard - very retired
            9 Froglok Paladin - Trader

            Secondary account:

            70 Dwarven Warrior
            67 Vah Shir Bard
            I think I have varied low level toons too but they change with my whims.

            The warrior I made when BD cultural was still actually good, and had the fortune of getting to 70 about the time that the DON armor came out. If I could have made a dwarven bard (for the same reason) I would have but failing that I went with a cat to be different. I prefer the smaller races, wood/dark elf is pushing the height limit for me; I just don't like the perspective of view on the screen, or the fact that big races feel like they're running way too slow. Plus not needing shrink is always handy. Conversely there are a few zones that being small sucks in (like Kael), but ah well.

            Dwarves, Gnomes, and Halflings have always had an appeal to me, in all the fantasy books, they seem to be the races with the most character.

              well, I kinda see certain classes as certain races

              Shadowknight = Ogre
              Necro = Human
              Mage = Dark Elf
              Ranger = Wood Elf
              Monk = Iksar
              Shaman = Barbarian or Iksar
              Warrior = Ogre or Iksar
              Beastlord = Vah Shir
              Druid = Wood Elf
              Cleric = High Elf
              Rogue = Halfling
              Enchanter = Gnome or High Elf
              Bard = Half Elf
              Wizard = Erudite
              Zerker = Dwarf

              Can't think of the other classes atm so *shrugs*

              As you can probly tell, I love iksars >_>

                Tendiin--WoodElf Bard
                Furlitiny -- Gnome Chanter
                Seebi -- Human Monk
                Fearl Snugglebunny -- High Elf Cleric
                Stabathy -- Froggy Rogue
                Sangare -- Drakkin(couldn't resist) Warrior (by far the easiest class I've played)
                Kayatay -- Wood Elf Ranger (My first and most dispised toon, but only good forager)
                and my trader mule Feaffun -- Halfling Ranger (lvl 3)
                I call for the elimination of EQ levels 1-50.

                      If there were a way to convert an existing toon to a new religion, or a new race, my Shadowknight would go Veeshan immediately. Sure, I'd have to rebuy some augs, but I wanted Veeshan from the first day I saw that option on the Bard listings. =P

                          If I could do so without having to relevel I would, that was my point. As it is, I think my guild would lynch me if I showed up as a level 1...

                            My very first toon that I actually leveled was a Barbie Shm. I started to play her cause I had watched hubby for hours running around leveling and dying ( a lot) on his Barbie warrior in Everfrost.

                            Then I got my own account and made a new Barbie shaman, a Woddie Druid and High-elf cleric. Didn't have much fun with the cleric and the "new" shaman just wasn't as much fun re-leveling.. So the druid became my main til Luclin came out and they had.... VAH SHIR!!!

                            So I made Kitathia my main, now 75 Beastlord.
                            And Purfictica - now 63 Zerker.
                            Also had a Vah Shir bard, but never really had much time to play her, deleted her lil over a week ago to make my first mage, a Drakkin - though I think I should have made her a Dark Elf.. she's kinda naughty.
                            My Chanter is a Dark Elf and mainly my baz mule.

                            If I had more spot then the 8 slots I'd make a rogue DE or Vah Shir. And if I could do a race-change... I'd change my shaman to a Vah Shir too.

                            As you can guess.. I love cats and Vah Shir.

                              Let's see...
                              Fenbin, 70 Enchanter, Gnome
                              Wendyl, 55 Ranger, Halfling
                              Gilmech, 51 SK, Gnome
                              Phenry, 25 Cleric, Gnome
                              Chemlig, 12 Paladin, Gnome
                              Fenbins, 10 Paladin, Gnome (bazaar mule)

                              Basically, if the class I want to play can be a gnome, I'll choose gnome.

                              I like the idea of an underestimated, powerful, character in a small size. I think it's fun having a little gnome tanking a god or a dragon.

                              -- C.

                              PS: Truth-be-told, gnomes are not little -- they are normal size. Everyone else is just freakishly large.
