SONY ONLINE ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCES NEW CLASS FOR UPCOMING PROPHECY OF RO EXPANSION!

SAN DIEGO, CA January 8, 2006: Sony Online Entertainment Inc. (SOE) recently gave an official announcement of a new expansion for its popular MMORPG, EVERQUEST. In a stunning development, it has been released that a new character class will be available for selection: the NINJA.

"Ninjas have long been a staple of fantasy and adventure," said Chris Sturr, Sr. Brand Manager, Sony Online Entertainment. "The programmers here at Sony haven't been able to stop thinking about the excitement this will bring. This new option for players promises to be the coolest addition yet to the online world of Norrath."

"And when we say cool, we really mean totally sweet."

Amid discussion of class balancing and grouping roles, it was revealed that a Ninja's purpose will be a sudden burst of DPS.

"We feel like the purpose of the Ninja will be to flip out when least expected. Group members might criticize Ninja characters for simply standing around and not giving a crap, but they're in for the shock of their lives when the Ninja springs into action with a careful and precise ferocity."

Some features of the Ninja class:

    - This class will actually be available to all of the races of Norrath, with the exception of the reptilian Iksar. It is a well-known fact that Ninjas are, in fact, mammals.

    - Flight! For the first time, true flight will be an obtainable skill. Common knowledge establishes that Ninjas could not only fly, but they spent a great deal of their time doing so.

    - Ninja Yell. Monsters won't be able to handle the presence of a powerful Ninja. This skill will cause a massive decrease in monster fighting ability, and be accompanied by a loud sound effect that can only be described as a "guitar wail".

    - Ninjas are always fighting, so players won't need to activate "auto-attack". A true Ninja is always ready for battle, and can be considered to be fighting all the time.

"Ninjas have always been a symbol of power," Sturr concluded. "They have been an ultimate expression of skill and power throughout history."

"Now in Norrath, that ultimate power is real."

I'm sure most of the community won't be fooled, but just in case, since there are already enough weird rumors out there about the new expansion.....

No link is provided. While cunningly crafted, certain elements of this "press release" expose it as a hoax.

Besides, everyone knows the Ninja class has existed in EQ since Day 1....unfortunately. otherwise known as the Ninja Looter

You know, there HAS been an on-going debate on the Sony boards about whether ninjas or pirates are superior. Thus far, the pirates seem to have the advantage (gnome pirates in Velious and the new Butcherblock monster mission), but this may be a sign of the ninja resurgence...

Bah, I wasn't trying to fool anyone. It was just some weird concept that occurred to me this morning

And I know that the folks at EQTC are of somewhat higher intelligence than the average EQ player, so I wasn't expecting to fool anyone.

          I hope you laughed.

And that you'll forgive me for forgetting than Frogloks are also non-mamma

I know you meant it as a joke, but lately i've been dispelling really ridiculous rumors right and left about the expansion (in my guild, in-game in /ooc, etc ) so my post was mainly pre-emptive prevention.

                  YOU..... FREAKING.....

                  *spazflails*

i ate your troll. hook line and sinker. even spazzed to the chat about it. "OMG PLAYABLE NINJAS." cause I only skimmed the first paragraph, looking for the important word, which I found to be "the NINJA".

i then proceeded to NOT read the rest of the document (before spazzing to chat, i mean... i did eventually read it and found it most amusing, and will have to spread this link around to all my RUP-loving friends). i lose at /life/, man.

and what gets me most of all..... based on that word alone, i was seriously about to re-evaluate my budget so I /could/ afford to continue playing eq1, and also buy Titanium AND PoR.... /just so I could play a ninja, dadgummit!/

and besides, there /are/ pirates in norrath already... they "need" Ninja-PCs so you can have PIRATES VS NINJA BATTLES.

You had me too, though I was wondering how troll and ogre ninjas would work out! Had me thinkin' of whether it would actually get me interested in the game again. =)

That would be cool if they really did add Ninjas into the game
