Why I like Tradeskills in Star Wars Galaxies more than Everquest

    1. The first thing I made was a surveying tool that I have used over and over again. (Has anyone found a use for a scaler yet?)

    2. I don't have to kill a single critter to get ore, metal, gases, liquids, etc. for my crafting. (Why can't I go dig the acrylia out of the ground myself, I'm sure I could do a better job then those darn Grimling Orefinders, they suck at mining!)

    3. Every recipe I can create is stored on my data pad. (Ok, so now there are recipe books, sue me)

    4. Everytime I make something and succeed, I get experience related to what I what craft I was using. (So how exactly does killing a giant spider help with my smithing?)

    5. No matter how simple a clothing item may seem, someone else might find it to be just the right color and buy it to just look good. (Oh come on, I'll pay you to wear this ornate chainmail!)

    6. NO FORGES! (NO FORGES!)

    7. NO MORNING DEW, ESSENCE OF SHADOW, ESSENCE OF SUNLIGHT, OR OAK BARK! (You want HOW MUCH for that stuff you found on the ground?)

    8. I can double click items to add to the appropriate recipe slot instead of dragging it and throwing the mouse across the room every time I miss the stupid little box. (Carpal Tunnel anyone?)

    9. My crafted goods are better than what the mobs drop and will always be better. (So how well is that Mithril Chain moving anyway?)

    10. And the best thing I like is that I can sell things while not even logged onto the game! (What, the bazaar crashed again while I was at work/asleep/shopping?)

I know that I have been away for awhile and now you all know why. After crafting in SWG, I don't know if I could go back to the skill-up grind of EQ. I hope everyone else is still doing well and reaching their goals of grand-mastery.

Oh you will though. Like a creature lair is on the 95% concentration of Iron you want... you are gonna kill those creatures and lairs...

But true... you are not REQUIRED to kill the creatures for it

And there is the curse of my character. I plant a harvester in a place that is creature free... set a stopwatch for 90 seconds... a lair of agro creatures will pop up within agro range of me at my harvester and try to kill me.

well... there is still sorta this problem.

On one server there is a gemstone that has NEVER spawned ANYWHERE on ANY planet. Because of thet the main weapon for the while rifelman class cannot be made by ANYONE!

    But genreally it is better

unless you are a weaponsmith. There are a few weapons that are better that do VERY RARELY drop.

Unless the bazaar crashes but hey it is really rare

I like they overall system better. I just wish that there was a better way to get our resources... it is really not a fun part of the game.

      Why SWG tradeskills *suck*.

      1. I use my Dairy spoon/file/small jar (insert subcombine/tool here) every time I go to make something.

      2. In SWG, any armor requires fur/pelts, and they have to be the same type. So yeah, you have to kill critters.

      3. *couch*print*cough*

      4. You get miniscule skillups in SWG, as opposed to a point by point system. Either way, you still have to grind out a rediculos number of crap items just to get ahead.

      5. I've sold Ornate Chain before (within the last year). Granted, not at 500% markup, but hey, it sold.

      6. NO FORGES! Instead, you have to hit combine or yes 6 times to make one item, and sit through a loading please wait screen each time.

      7. NO MORNING DEW, ESSENCE OF SHADOW, ESSENCE OF SUNLIGHT, OR OAK BARK! Instead, they call it Copper, Iron, Alloy, etc.... but its all forraged....

      8. The CNTrl key is your friend.

      9. The armor made in EQ is comparable to some mob drops, just not all of them.... but EQ player made weapons blow chunks.

      10. EQ at least doesnt' charge a fee to list your item that may or may not sell...

They charge a fee? As in RL money or ingame money? If thats the case I am glad I didn't go for this game.

The bazaar in SWG charges 25 credits to have your item listed. Its not much, and a simple courier mission (which takes just a few minutes) inside the city can earn you about 100 credits. And the bazaar auctions stay up for a full week, even when you're not on-line.

The good thing about SWG skills is that any time you succeed in making your item, you make some progress, and you always know roughly where you stand in improving your skill. Provided you can find a spot to forage for your items (as mentioned above, not always a given for some of the rarer commodities), you can collect as much as you have the patience to wait for - and only of the resources you need. Its not like EQ where you click the forage button and risk coming up with roots when all you want is morning dew.
