Hey House Ogre,
If the HD is unbootable in your computer now that it blew try the following:
1) get a new HD and reload the OS on it.
2) while the OS is loading on the new HD put old HD in a bag and toss it in the freezer
3) after OS is totally loaded on new HD create a folder for the old HD info
4) connect the old HD to the IDE or SCSI chain and reboot.
5) Select all info from the Old HD and copy it to the New HD.
This may sound odd but it is how I and several folks I know have been able to recover vital info off drives that went south.
Hope this helps
