If you're raising your Tailoring skill by using Myrron's Guide to Tailoring (which is totally awesome, thank you!), and don't mind spending a little cash, here's a tip: after creating raw silk armor until level 36, buy mandrake roots at various vendors and create woven mandrake. You can then combine 1 woven mandrake with one steel boning (Smithing trivial 37) to make Picnic Baskets (Tailoring trivial 76). If you hate hunting down spiders as much as I do, this will save you a few silk swatches while getting you 10 points closer to cured silk armor.
