  • Any other ways to skill up?

I have started tinkering on the new Stromm server and have entered the 140's in skill levels. I've been making geerloks for around 30 points now, brewing for skill ups and others for skill ups + market. Now my question is, with no drops from PoI, is there anything better to skill up on or are geerloks my best choice still? Thanks in advance for your responses

    what no drops from PoI?

Coiled springs are dropable and same with ball bearings (I usually get quite a bit off merchants with the help of my friends)... All your really need to fight with someone to the gnome in PoI (or follow another group that happens to be heading that way), buy some steel casings, and you can make minimizing devices and maximizing devices (good to skill up on and minimizing devices has a fairly good market too)... If you get your hands on some saltpeter, you can make some happy dragons and meteor rockets too, but those require you to have some fletching skill as well...

Geerloks is still your best route for sure until POI drops become available...brewing geerloks make for very cheap skill up attempts as always, so they are perfect for the new Stromm economy

Rebreathers and stuff cost way too much to use them as skill ups

Geerloks to 215 or however close you want to get. They are the cheapest way to do it. You may also want to talk to the people in the local "uber" guild on Stromm and if no one in their guild is a tinkerer offer to do combines for drops. The biggest benefit of going to 215 on geerlocks is you will be able to make collapsed stuff without too many failures and the innovative bow cams are trivial to you (208).

              Do you have LoY?

              Geerlok automated quill (232)
              Geerlok clockwork contraption (236)

You're at a good level to be hunting on the beach in Gunthak for the parts, so go grab some experience while you're at it. You'll have to bring your own gears, sprockets and gnomish bolts, though - there is no general tinkering vendor nearby.

Yep, as right now 2 guilds have emerged as the "uber" ones. Although, 3 weeks is hardly enough time to decide whats going to happen. For the one guild I offer combines if they bring me enough for 2 attempts, first is theirs second is mine. Already made some corking devices for em. Geerloks are selling decently although no real economy yet so not as fast as I hoped.

If anyone was wondering about skilling up, its not nearly as hard as I thought it would be to get from 50-160 where I am currently. I would guess its cost me 3.5k with 162 Intelligence lol.

Well I am on the Brewing Geerloks now but let me tell you finding the Porous Mineral Blocks is a horrible time.

Is there only one spot for them off Netherbian drones and warriors? Because so far I have only found one spot for them in NL and they dont drop very offten I have only seen one so far in a days camping them.

Also not to mention High Levels come along pull them all and AE them. My 21 necro cant compete with that

Well any tips on this would be great.

The question is really are you interested in skilling up, making a profit or outright manipulating the marketplace (ego)?

While not totally mutually exclusive, these goals are certainly at odds with each other.

For instance: player approaches you for a combine and has all the parts and its not a trivial combine... do you:
                    A) charge the player 500p to press the button regardless of success, or
                    B) demand 10 of the same type of components as your fee, or
                    C) flat our refuse to do combine, or
                    D) perform combine for donation or reasonable fee, knowing that you get a chance to skill up.

The correct answer is D if your interested in skilling up.

And since you have stated here that you want to skill-up, then you should be prepared to change how your treat your clients and suppliers. This will ensure a steady supply of components being provided to you that you dont have to scrounge for.

How you interact with others does have lasting consequences and I know many people that wont visit the 250+ butthead (or even the 140's stinker) because of the tradeskillers negative reputation.

And when you do get to PoI and fight your way to the merchant, don't forget to buy vial of gasses there!

As far as I know, he is the only merchant to sell them and you need those to make the maximizing devices.

I wish I had known that ahead of time. Now all I can make are the minimizing devices (they just require a flask of water).
