  • How do I get to the Steel Casing vendor?

I know he is in PoI, but how do I get to him? Anyone have a handy map of PoI, too?

The steel casings are still non-stackable and cost about 45p each, correct? Do they weigh much or should I stack up on WR bags?

    Thanks,

Grab a group, zone in and fight your way to the right.

Not far down the valley, you'll see a building with Nitram (the merchant) inside.

Casings cost 42pp each and aren't very heavy (0.5 wt I think). They don't stack, of course.

Archaic models, by the way, can't be slowed and hit hard

Please also note that most things in this zone see Invis.

He's not too far down the path, but it is very hard to get there solo. I've had a careful monk get there and buy with few problems. The mobs are spread out very well, so you should only aggro one at a time, and sneak will get you around most of them.

It's hard to get back, since you don't want to train the zone line -- but if you fail, all you have to do is wait 15 minutes and collect your Steel Casings at the graveyard.

It's definitely safer to take a group down, as well as being more fun. Before you take the trip, you might want to ask if anyone is doing the Factory quest (tinkered dragon). When that happens, the vendor is absent -- or, if you get them just as they are starting, you should be able to convince them to tag along and make your purchases before they trigger the event

Ok, great! Thanks for the info. One more question though...are the casings NO DROP? They must not be if someone had a monk buy for them, but I was under the impressions they couldn't be traded.

Oh, I do have one more question. I've seen recipes call for a ball bearing. While fighting in PoI I've seen steel ball bearings drop. Is this what I need? Is there such thing as just a "ball bearing?"

            Thanks again.

Yes, Steel ball bearing. Nothing else in EQ it called anything close to that. Thats what you need.

I would put a few tink bags on my 58 monk and feign-flop him down to the merchant. When i get to him, i usually have a nice parade behind me waiting to kick my butt. Wait a few mins, get up, open merchant window and FD again. Buy buy buy buy buy. Flop my way back. Havent died yet. Came close once tho, ended up with like 100hp. Eep.

Another way to do this if check on bazaar to see who sells minimizers, and ask them to let you tag along next time they go to re-stock. I usually make a run for it with 1 or 2 friends and would not mind helping a fellow tinkerer. Naturally, any coils and ball bearings during the trip are mine

                  SoS

Course... if yer a gnome rogue, or have a rogue friend or Alt. Just use SoS and walk back to the gnome, buy the casings and walk back out

If you are taking the path to the right, towards Mr. Anizok, you will not have single creatues, except maybe the wanderers. Almost every clockwork from the zone in to Nitram is in a knot of 2 or 3. The left path is a different story...and if you're 62-65, you'll probably be getting just one...but for the rest of us, it's a short but difficult trip

One of these days, I'll get my map of PoI finished (in-game map that is )

Another option is find a trusted monk buddy. they like to flop down to the vendor for me and buy the casings. Can usually get about 40 or so depending on bag/bank space. They flop down, buy the casings ( and any bearings, coiled springs ) off the vendor then flop back and zone out. You can even stay outside the zone, no fear of getting hit by a train ;o)

Ok, I was in a group, we crawled down the right-side path and around a corner. I saw a big door and opened it only to find most clockworks inside (they didn't agro us though). I didn't see any merchant. And this was right before what looked like an intersection.

Is this too far? Not far enough? I don't remember seeing any other kind of building before that.

                        Thanks.
And if there is a map of PoI out there somewhere, could you post a link?

The vendor is on a rise in a tower.

He's all the way down the right-hand lane.

Depending on the mob spawns there, a ranger or druid (using Harmony of Nature) or a paladin/cleric/enchanter (lull line, whatever's best in it) might be able to make it down to the vendor.

Only problem is the archaics and the obsoletes cannot be Harmonied (dunno about the lull line, I play a ranger).

For what its worth, the enchanter spell MINOR ILLUSION moves you to indifferent with mobs. So while you can't move, this may give you added time to complete you purchases.
