    Tinkering cost

I went from 102 to 174 tinkering only making geerloks. I did a few (20) combines on the more expensive ggerloks early on to burn components I'd been saving. After that, it's all been brewing. I have been collecting most (all but about 75) of my own mineral blocks. I have lost a net of about 500pp doing that. My char has ~247 int (when KEI-ed), and I only been using the haven amulet for charisma (so the merchant would even speak to me).

The primary reason it cost so little is that I get ~2-3p worth of cash/loot from the netherbians for every block they drop.

      Costs

Its cost me so far to get to a skill of 182 just over 9k

My tinker is lvl 24 a wizzy and has a natural INT of 255 and CHA of 121

      I did 38 combines on standard bow cams to skill 75 ( 456p )
      I did 33 combines on stalking probes to skill 102 ( 528p )
      I did 29 combines on powered gloves to skill 122 ( 1305p )
      I did 11 combines on Tinkered catapults to skill 135 ( 605p )

To 135 cost me 1894p all success were sold back to the vendor. I made the bows myself.

From 135 to 182 ive done geerloks.

      Cooking utensils
      1 attempt 1 success 1 skill up ( 31p )

      Fermentations
      16 attempts 11 success 4 skill ups ( 48p )

      Automated hammers
25 attempts 7 success 4 Skill ups ( 700p ) acrylia was farmed with my bard

      Sewing Contraptions
      2 attempts 1 success 1 skill up ( 64p ) chitterling barbs farmed myself

      Gem setters
82 attempts 41 success 14 skill ups ( 2706p ) all reishi eyes vendor bought

      Planing tools
      136 attempts 73 success 21 skillups ( 3536p ) all belts vendor bought

      Colapsable spits
      46 attempts 18 success 2 skill ups ( 181 , 182 ) ( 184p )

Everything was sold back to vendors, except the spits which went to guildies.

So far to skill 182 its cost me 9163p

        Astounding advancement

        I did 29 combines on powered gloves to skill 122 ( 1305p )
        I did 11 combines on Tinkered catapults to skill 135 ( 605p )

Truly amazing that you made 13 skill ups in a mere 11 tries.

My tinkering costs little more than time, when I can spare it. Farming PMBs in neth and doing brewing geerlocks. However, I have managed to sell at least 1k worht of those, so am slowly making a profit

          gah

gah i was looking at the wrong colum, i got 11 sucess out of >> 35 << tries

          so 9163 - 605 = 8558 + 35x55( 1925) = a total of 10483p to get to skill 182.

          Now here is the rest

          1 attempt 1 success 0 fails ( gem setters ) 33p
          183
          4 attempts 4 success 0 fails ( gem setters ) 132p
          184
          3 attempts 2 success 1 fail ( gem setters ) 99p
          4 attempts 3 success 1 fail ( planing ) 104p
          185
          6 attempts 4 success 2 fails ( planing ) 156p
          1 attempt 1 success 0 fail ( fermentation ) 3p
          186
          1 attempt 1 success 0 fail ( fermentation ) 3p
          187

              My route to 115 skill

I just started Tinkering this past weekend. I managed to get to 115 skill at a cost of roughly 900pp (WIS 190). The route I've taken so far is as follows:

              50-67: Flameless Lantern
              67-75: Standard Bow Cam
              75-102: Stalking Probe
              102-115: Powered Gloves

I'll probably stick with the gloves until they go trivial at 122. Then I have to decide whether to talk a guild ranger into making some bows (for the catapult) or start looking for the Luclin items needed to make geerlok stuff (a LOT cheaper, but slow skill-ups based on what I'm reading here).

One thing I'll do to boost my chances is to take the extra few seconds to swap in my weapon and shield (adds 28 to WIS) while doing the tinkering, and switch back to the +CHA steins (and Shadow Haven faction item as needed) when transacting with vendors.

                Tinkering

I'm doing tinkering right now with a wizzard thats 355 intelligence and the 10 percent tinker robe. I would hazard to guess that we've gotten said wizzard to 205 unmodified for probably a little under 40k.

I spent 12k today from 188 to 205. I was making Geerlock Hammers/Molten Ore Cams. I was paying 45 to 55 per piece of Acrylia and selling them back to the vendors for 13 plat. So depends really.

All in all I would say 250 tinkering probably cost about 100k. I've had some really good streaks.

I guess one question here is does it matter to skill up what your making??

Are skill ups any faster making collapsed items or geerloks???

I have 255 int unbuffed and it took me 30-40 combines of Collapsed Toolkits to go from 193 to 195 skill

But i tell you I WILL be keeping track of ALL combines from now on so I can report my progress from 195 here

Im currently doing collapsed toolkits and just selling them back to vendors for 1 copper lots of times as my trader sells them i can just go back to the vendor and grab em for a copper and sell them in bazaar, so the vendor is sorta my storage place for lore items hehe. Anyway the toolkits just seem the least hassle to make.

Your chances of a skill up are higher on a success than on a failure. As such, yes, it matters. Typically, stuff closer to getting trivial will give you the best skill up rate.

Of course, availability of parts, cost of parts, and ease of combines can mean that the thing you fail frequently is more effecient to skill up on. And due to the silliness of the success formula, the closeness of the trivial level to your current level becomes less important the higher your skill gets.
It's up to you, what you do will decide your own fate.

As enticing as this sounds - DONT DO IT. All it does is gives non-tinkerers access to your products for 1copper. Anytime I find a "stash" like this I buy and destroy them until they are gone. Sounds harsh, but the LORE is what maintains the profit on the items. Go into the bazaar and look at the Geerlocks - you'll see the fletching geerlok for 20p and lots of them. The reason is that tinks have irresponsibly dumped them where others can buy them en masse and attempt to resell. You're only hurting your own sales.

When I was skilling on collapsed toolboxes, it was great. Just keep combining because they automatically lore poof on success.

well, i started tinkering before teh warrior epic was introduced...so getting to the point where rebreathers were trivial back then deffinately put a hole in my pocket. now i think it would be much much cheaper, more along the costs of fletching.

if i were to start again it would be pretty simple:

Flameless Lantern to 68 (2plat per attempt)

Stalking Probe to 102 (16 plat per attempt)

Powered Gloves to 122 (45 plat per attempt)

Tinkered Catapult to 135 (43 plat per attempt) note: much easier if you spend the time to raise your fletching to make these yourself. really easy.

Advanced Propulsion Unit to 162 (use up those catapults!)

Happy Dragon to 187 (use up those Advanced Propulsion Units!)

now i would start on geerloks, try to save your loy components for when you trivial out the luclin ones. clockwork contraptions and automated quills were my main source for skill ups after i hit 215 simply for cost.

another cheap route is doing the collasped toolboxes, hard to find coil springs for a decent rate on my server at times. depends on your server i guess, but the best way for me to do it was to hold onto the first one i made so i wouldn't have to destroy each one. please don't sell tinkered goods to vendors ! ruins the market =\

once at 240 you are golden, 5% mod and you are 250. you'll get it by accident from there

hope that helps, once you get to around 162 then the cost depends on bazaar prices for most of you.

I got my tink to 217 with 235 INT on around 30k. The LoY geerloks are pretty cheap to make especially if you can go farm components. Being a 65 cleric I like to run around on the beach gathering mobs then AE them. I get 1-1.5 stacks in about an hour.
