  • Geerlok Floatation Pack

Many years ago, a click levitation device was almost a rarity. Ingenious gnomes found a way to harness the hovering power of the antigrav unit and the Floatation Pack was born.

Subsequently, a number of changes have happened within the world of Norrath. Newly discovered zones in recent times are mountainous to the extreme. New forms of levitation have been discovered by other classes within summoned rings and player made potions. The temporary magician ring casts a 20 minute levitate spell, the potion of Gulon's Impunity lasts 20 minutes as well. Many illusions have come into the game in the interim and "clicky" levitation is no longer the mystery or rarity it once was.

In all this time the Geerlock Floatation Pack has cast a 10 minute levitation spell and it uses once common components in the GoD expansion which are now rare or require tedious camping. The recharge item specifically drops nowhere else other than GoD zones. It is frequently on sale in the bazaar for many hundreds of platinum or requires at least a few hours of time to collect supplies.

Is there any chance that this amazingly useful device can see an upgrade?

A minor upgrade would be to change the Levitation spell to Levity which would double the time.

A middling upgrade would be to change the ingredients and make a super powered floatation pack. I would like to propose that Spirit of Eagle is the resulting spell cast. Precedence has already been set that this spell is available on a fairly trivial Halloween Quest.

The "middling" upgrade would give an opportunity to change the trivial and change the ingredients to something more relative to SOF and beyond.

Though I agree that the Pack's spell is woefully underpowered compared to how difficult it is to find replacement "batteries", I think it's worth noting that:
    1) The Halloween quest is available for a very short time. (a week?)
    2) The prize for that quest has only 10 charges and it cannot be recharged. (Though you may be able to do that quest again, if it's still near Halloween.)

maybe the recharge recipe can be changed, instead, to one of teh mana batteries?

Although mana batteries can be made for approximately 50pp, most people buy them (as surprise surprise, they use the same infused matter) for 100pp.

Given the cost of the battery, that ends up being 5pp per lev cast.

Gulon's Lev potion costs about 4pp to make and casts a spell that lasts twice as long as the Floatation Pack.

Although the mana battery solution would solve part of the problem, it would certainly not make the Floatation Pack any more in demand for Tinkerers or their customers.

The two issues (availability of materials + spell duration time) are really connected.

Though ingenious... Tinkerers are not the most "efficient" of folks.

That said it is something I will consider, but I make no promises at all.

I made a Geerlok Floatation Pack once on a lark, boy that hq horse skin was fun to get for some. Then I saw what was needed to recharge it an either gave it away or deleted it, I forget which.

I gave away my Ice Cream Churn too, the lark strikes back, which didn't serve any useful purpose.
