    Ngreth,

Since tinkering got the short end of the stick for the recent TS changes, would it be possible that tinkers could use EITHER the smithed OR the tailored recipes for symbols? I think it's possible that the same final item could have different recipes within the same kind of skill. Celestial Essence is one example of that, so from a code-point-of-view, that shouldn't be an issue. What do you think, can you do that?

    Maybe?

Not in time for SoF for sure.

Not sure why, as there are tinkered recipes for symbols. /shrug

There are tinkered recipes..but only using ore/loam. The request is to add the tailoring version as well, so you could tinker with pelts/marrow as well.

That would also make sense to go along with the tailored armor. Maybe silk/fluids only, since gnomes can't wear leather? But, I think it would be nice to be all 3 sets.

Slarhilug Stuffed Poppers is another example of the same item having multiple recipes.

As it is there are 4 recipes for the symbols anyway This would be 1 or 2 MORE...

Four tinkered recipes for symbols of each level? How did I miss that? I checked and re-checked with tinkering book vendors and the only symbol book available uses smithing drops, and then, only one type. I have no idea how there could be four?

There are 4 recipes from smithing, tailoring (x2), and tinkering (from smithed items) to create symbols.

                  Anyone can make any symbol.

Ngreth seemed to be implying that tinkers have four options for creating symbols, but actually there is only one. While I'm sure he can't get excited about creating a second option for tinkers, it's pretty arbitrary that we should be locked into a smithing route. I actually think it adds to a current imbalance that exists on most servers. What I mean is that there are more skilled smiths than tailors and this has resulted in a significant imbalance in the availablity of loam vs. spinnerets. By choosing to add all tinkers to the smithing option, the ratio is further imbalanced. Also, I would guess that the ratio of gnomes who can wear plate vs. cloth favors cloth by about 3:1. so, from the Gnomish population perspective, a tailoring option would seem more logical.

I read his post as there are currently 4 ways to make Sacred Boot Symbol of Growth for example.

It can be made using an ore and a loam (smithing combine).
It can be made using a silk and a spinneret (tailoring combine).
It can be made using a pelt and a marrow (tailoring combine).

It can be made using a pelt and a marrow (tinkering combine).

The resulting item is exactly the same and it has 4 recipes, and could expand to 5 or 6 recipes to make the same item. Not new, per the examples in earlier posts in this thread, to have multiple recipes in the same tradeskill for the same item and across different tradeskills for the same item.

You just chose to interpret it as four recipes for tinkering. I implied that there needed to be 1 or 2 ore for tinkering if you interpret it another way!

I was more saying that "alternates" are not difficult. But I still don't have time for it before SoF.

With the new directions of drop rates, I am going to leave it at just the loam. Loam is not more common off of humanoids than the other two. Tinkering very much has a bent towards metal and smithing, and I am going to keep it that way for now.
