Am I correct in my observation that I now need a Smith, myself or other, to make the Templates needed for the Servolink and Autoactuated armors? IF this is the case then woe is me for so far I have ignored smithing since my Shawl questing days of '01 or somesuch.
I see that for Intricate Servolink Greaves the recipe is:

    Water Flask
    Gears
    Sprockets
    Malleable Fortified Bronze
    Black Nitrous Coal
    Bonded Loam
    Rhenium Chain Legplates Template
    Mold for Gnomish Leggings
    Gnomish Heat Source

My Tinkering is 297 and the triv for this combine is 306, I am hoping that my meager smithing of 187 will be sufficient, should I actually need smithing to create the template in order to follow this skillup path. Anyone have info on this they care to share? Thanks!

    Templates

The subcombine for cultural has always been smithing or tailoring. The advantage that we got as gnomes was that we could do the final combine through tinkering instead of smithing or tailoring.

I know I had a miserable time finding a gnome to do some GM swatch subcombines for me back in the day. If I recall correctly, there are no gnome tailors on my entire server over 252 (at least, at the time).

True enough. The prior subcombine, to create intricate servolink bronze bar, was, however, a triv 182 combine, and one I could a) actually ATTEMPT to do since the recipe was not restricted by my current skill and b) reasonably doable with my skill of 187 ( I do here Intricate Servolink Bronze Bar insert a link to said subcombine ).
Now I found this on the smithing thread EQTC Forums > Tradeskills - > Smithing :

      Rhenium Chain Legplates Template
      Trivial: 282
Smithy Hammer + 3x Rhenium Ore + Black Nitrous Coal + Chainmail Legplates Template Pattern + Metal Tempering Chemicals

So I do believe I've answered my own question, though I am hoping that I've missed something as I am not looking forward to having to work smithing up in order to progress to GM Cultural Tinkering. Perhaps I can buy the Template(s) and they won't be destroyed in the process of making the Armor? Would that be too much to hope for?
      Can anyone tell me definitively?

Yeah, going to have to wait for word from Ngreth, but it definitely looks like we may have gotten screwed on this one

          3 options:
          1. Make templates yourself(skill up smithing)
          2. Buy templates from someone else (a decent option since others should be making templates to skill up smithing and tailoring).
          3. Do the symbol quest and make symbols instead (not checked this one, but I am fairly sure that symbols just require the rhenium+bonded, not the template).

In any event, the tinkering skill ups from cultural just got MUCH harder (fortunately, sunshard is still an option).

            Yes

Tinkering did get a bit of a short straw on this.

But hopefully templates will not be too difficult to come by since people use them for skillup. Heck, you may even find them on vendors.

Unfortunately acquiring them via others is only a short term fix. In 6 months to a year when hardly anybody is trying to skillup in large batches, I suspect the availability of those templates will be virtually nil, and any tinkers working skills at that point will be primarily in the same camp they are now. Raising Smithing and/or Tailoring in addition to Tinkering in order to raise skill.

Or, as I mentioned, do the symbol quest.

Even then, you still need to get the rhenium as well as the bonded loam, which are now going to be in high demand by people trying to get smithing up to 290+, and even more so when the stuff becomes tribute-enabled.

Fortunately, most of those same people would be interested in trading for the Sunshard subcombines.

Well, thats a solution if you are trying to skill up. However if you are, as I am, far more likely to make armor to wear, it doesn't help much.
Mind you, I'm wearing two pieces of armor I crafted myself right now...

the combination of the destoyed market for the AAAA (at least on my server thanks to the dup bug that was not fully rectified), the nuked cultural path for gnomes (now need to bring my Smithing up 85 points to match my tinkering), and the spread of the AAAAs into multiple objects has just about destroyed my desire to tinker for profit. I have not been this disgusted in tinkering in many years.

Any smith or tailor can make the templates for you to use. You do not have to personally get your skill up. Even if you want to, the new cultural recipes will make it MUCH easier to do so.

The spread of the AAAA into multiple objects? I guess you are referring to the yet introduced changes to the way Chronal and Discordant augs no longer require an AAAA. These are not going in until the SoF expansion launches.

It doesn't help, but it doesn't really hurt either. Since before this patch you couldn't tinker the symbol part of the armor.

Well, I'm only just under 200 tailoring and smithing on my little gnome, and she's around 235 tinkering so far, so I've not really run into the problem yet.

However, Evram, I'm on Quellious too. If you need the tailored or smithed subcombine templates, let me know. If you bring the ingredients I'll be more than happy to do the subcombines for you. I have several tailors and smiths at 300 skill.
