We've discussed this at tremendous length. The thing preventing this from happening is simply the way the game mechanics work. All graphics in the "global" file have to load on your PC when you log in. All of the models you have listed are in the "zone" file and only load when you zone into an area that has those mobs. Adding any sort of clockwork pet would require an addition to the global file, and it is not likely they will add one to the file.

Yes the illusion have been covered a few times here and at SOE EQ forum. The global file is already large from the DoDh shroud stuff and not everyone has large amount of memory on their PC to accomodate a bloated global file.

It would be nice to have other illusions but at best would be a "random" type illusions that are zone specific like what the jester does.

What if our clockwork pet used the roboboar model but on a smaller scale? I'm not suggesting we be able to summon a rideable boar, but rather a non-rideable pet that looks like the mechanical boar. That would already have to be in the global file.

I may be wrong here, but I think...

Roboboar could only be used for fluff or "familiar" pets because I believe it has not combat animations. (to save size in the global file...)

When we eventually get more of the player models done, they will free up global file space, but unfortunately that is going to take a while.

For the clockwork rats/spiders, are those different models from the regular rat/spiders or just the model with a new skin?

And clockwork in the global file would be nice, especially with a certain expansion coming up based near ak'anon

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the clockwork rats and spiders USED TO BE just regular rats with a different skin, but since we now have "new" rats and spiders, this may not be true anymore. Will see if I can google the reference.

For the purpose of keeping the global file size down, is a "model" distinct from its skin? E.g., let's say that Purple Rats exist naturally only in one zone. These Purple Rats have the same geometric appearance as all the other rats in the game, they're just "painted" a different color. Would the global file size have to be increased to make Purple Rats pets be available everywhere or could the purple be Earl Scheibed painlessly everywhere?

i used to believe that the space in the global file was a limiting factor, but then they added about 20 new models to it (shrouds) and i figured that wasnt a problem anymore. I also seem to remember a Dev mentioning that the space in the global file wasn't as big a deal as everyone was assuming it to be. such as when they added all those extra ones to it for the halloween events.

also, unless i'm mistaken the global file includes both models, and skins; so if there are already models in there that have clockwork skins available to them, then it would be an even smaller increase in size.

besides the shrouds, they also just replaced a bunch of models (elementals, spectres, zombies, etc) with new ones pretty much just for necros/mages and their new pet illusions/clickies, which is where i ripped off this version of this idea.

not to mention that this entire next expansion is based on Faydwer and gnomes. . .

i would be perfectly happy with some clockwork skins of whatever basic models are already in there if that is any more feasible.

New spectres are global (and replaced old ones), new zombies are too I believe, the katta elementals however are not global.

While they did add the halloween costumes to the global file, they were yanked out at the end and at the time Rashere still said that space was limiting and they didn't want to permanently add any more. (least until new pc models are done)

Forget rats and spiders, how about changing skin on one of the existing model? If that is possible, how about a mechanical skeleton?

I think skeletons already use a number of "skins" - hence the red, white, and mottled skeletons in addition to the "regular" one. A mechanical skeleton doesn't really make much sense from a lore perspective either.

"mats" (skins) are part of the model. Rats and spiders (both old and new graphics) have a clockwork skin.

the rat has to be there to get the mat. rats are not global at this time, so the whole rat would have to be added to get "purple" rats everywhere.

I believe once we are satisfied with the katta elementals (I think there is still tweaking going on) they will replace the global for elemental pets.
