  • Full capacity GVD

Seem to recall that there was a bug where if you placed a mana battery class V into your full capacity GVD you would be returned a half capacity device. Has this ever been fixed? I did a search and only found posts about the bug and no word of fixes. Thanks.

    This is not a bug.

If you recharge any GVD (be it half or full capacity) with a Mana Battery Class V, you get the Half-Capacity GVD, with 5 charges. To get back a Full Capacity GVD with 10 charges you have to recharge it with 2 Infused Dark Matter (instead of the mana battery).

Ah, so you could buy a half capacity one from the bazaar and simply "recharge" it with two infused dark matter and get back a full capacity one? If so, I feel like a moron since I just bought a full one at twice the price...doh.

Yeah, it confuses people a LOT. It is really odd behavior for an item, but it was apparently the only way to code it to get more charges.

i think it makes perfect sense from a lore standpoint..especially with a tinkered item. you have a device-- you put low end fuel into it, it dies faster... fill it with the good stuff and it lasts twice as long.

Shame tho if people pay more not realizing this, but iirc it has always been posted as going from half to full with a simple dark matter combine.

Yeah, unfortunately current code does not allow us to assign an arbitrary amount of changes. Actually not even 0. We can "create" a new item with full charges and that is it (recharging an item is actually destroying it then re-creating it)

While I realize they will always be 2 different items, is there any reason they cannot share the same name?

I guess because of another level of confusion that that would cause.

Yes, it was posted but that info is from around 2004 when it was implemented. I had quit prior to that and that was when there was just one type of device and not the full and half and you put in a battery and got full charge.

It may "make sense" from a lore point but it doesn't make sense from a logic standpoint. What would be logical would be to have one vanishing device that can have differnt charges but same name. However, I see that Ngreth has explained why this wasn't a plausible solution. Oh well, live and learn. Thanks everyone for clearing up my confusion regarding this device. That will teach me to quit this game lol, never can stay away!

Perhaps if this was added to the lore info you see when you right-click both the Half & Full capacity GVDs...

"recharging this item with a Mana battery Class V results in 5 charges. Recharging this item with 2 Infused Dark Matter results in 10 charges."

This would prevent misunderstandings, intentional or not.

That is a splendid idea me thinks! I actually looked at the device in this manner for such a description before posting this.
