    I'll start the madness:

Rocket Skates. 3-5 charge item with an instant-cast immediate (no buildup) speed boost of a bard - be ready! - but the handling of a broken unicycle over sharp gravel. Great for "I gotta get away from this mob NOW". Lasts for one bard cycle. Requires a great deal of Gnomish Spirits and a mana battery to recharge. If greater complexity is permitted, how about a chance of failure which results in a gflux and shadow step w/ stun - hope you're not near any chasms.

    ROTFLMAO!

I don't know if it makes any sense to actually add that recipe and item, but it was fun just reading the proposed idea. May I suggest an additional effect, however? During the duration of the effect, how about adding Illusion: Wiley Coyote

With the apparent change to give everyone pets through simple quests, I think it is high time Tinkers could make a clockwork pet in a variety of forms.

All the models for pets are done (creep reaper, mecho spider / rat etc).

All it needs is a recipe and quest.

This is actually an interesting idea. I would suggest a shorter duration and the full time of a bard song, as that last over 2 minutes, and additionaly on failure, a chance that you get snared.

I meant the 18 or so second flashing bard song duration.

                well...

Spiders, And rats are not in the global file as far as I know.

What are the models on these quested pets you speak of?

                  Rat

                  Clockwork buddy

                  Spider

I am not sure what the global file of which you speak is, I was only trying to imply that a Tinkered pet would not have to use a brand new, never before seen mob model. The current quests (Halloween mushroom) for pet sporali and the TSS quests for goblins, ( Wolf familiar etc. would seem to imply that the "pet / familiar" logic could just use a mechanical model instead. There are others of course that jump into the imagination such as a pet Junk Beast, but perhaps that is running before walking....

The graphics data for a model can be in 2 places. One, in the data for a specific zone which is downloaded when one enters that zone. Two, in a client side global file (which I think is actually kept in memory? anywho it doesn't matter).

The point is if you want a model to appear in a given zone, it has to be in that zone's data. If it needs to appear in ALL zones it has to be in the global file. Thus all pets, all playable races, and all player usable illusions must have their graphics stored in the global file. This global file is size constrained (I believe in order to make the required system specs printed on boxes not lies). Adding models to it is not something that is done willy nilly. I'm sure Ngreth is not in a position to make that happen. Suggest/request/plead perhaps but that is not something he can just add in.

Well it is good to learn a little more about the mechanics of EQ...

Probably the only reason that I brought tinkered pets up again was that TSS has introduced pets / familiars for every class, and some of those pets are obviously zone specific, and have had their models moved to the global file.

If it can't be done....it can't be done.....but it would appear with TSS that if it can be done, now is the time to ask again before they squeeze "other" stuff into a diminishing / valuable space!!

Yeah, goblins and sporali are in the global file because of "Shrouds"

unfortunately for tinkered pets I need either rats or spiders in the global file. Maybe gnomeworks, but I am not as convinced on them (they may be in the global... I forget what is available in shrouds...)

                          Ok shroud models are:

                          imp wizard
                          evil eye psion
                          evil eye sorcerer
                          imp trickster
                          gargoyle fighter

                          bear
                          wolf
                          tiger
                          werewolf

                          elementals (all 4 of them)

                          goblin (rogue, cleric, wizard)
                          orc (brute, battle rager)

                          kobold (cleric, rogue)
                          minotaur (brute, bserk)

                          fairy (trickster, wizard, cleric)
                          sporali (wielder, cleric)

                          basilisk
                          scaled wolf
                          raptor beast

                          skeleton
                          zombie
                          scarecrow
                          spectre

                          so nothing mechanical :-(

guess a thinkered scarecrow or zombie pet could be done, but not as much fun as the mechanical rats or spiders.

Would have been a nice effect to add o 300 fully maxed tinker trophy a summoned tinker pet

A question on the global file: Does it include skin?

What I mean is, mechanical rats look exactly the same as "real" rats, they just have a different skin on them. So if the global file includes the model, but not the skin, you would have a lot of different options to make mechanical pets out of. Of course, if the global file includes the skin, my idea is mute and should be duely ignored.

Coloration is probably not included (there are 3 bear colors, 3 wolf colors+spirit wolf, 2 mushroom colors, 2-3 werewolf colors, etc). However, rats are not in the global file, so it really is a moot point.
