That was quite annoying when I discovered that particular dilemma myself. I do have several other characters with the skills, but of course they're of other races, so I ended up raising my smithing to do the subcombines. Annoying, and premature, as I wasn't planning on working my smithing on her for awhile. I've never been a fan of multi-tradeskill requirements in this game. I don't force you to learn how to smith screws, nails, hinges, and brackets so you can build that desk, let alone making the glue, varnish/stain, carving tools, etc. You go buy those parts from the store and do the desk building yourself, you rarely go custom commision the parts unless it's something very special, due to cost, and difficulty in acquisition. If the subcombines could be acquired via merchants for say 1-3% markup over player made it would be one thing. However, being reliant on other characters who may not be around, may not feel like helping out, or shoot, may be impossible to find due to lack of information on other tailors/smiths on the server make this a very, very poor design decision in my opinion. Too many people who used to do TS's no longer do. Frequently those that do the work are doing it only for themselves, alts, or guildies, and either won't/don't do it for outsiders, which makes thier skills useless to the average user. With such a derth of available alternatives for our products, Sony is effectively _forcing_ us to work other tradeskills even if we only wanted to work on one of them. I don't particularly care, nor believe thier contention that you can work with other TS'ers on your server for your needs, they're just not that common when it comes to assisting others, many of them look at it like this: "If I can't make a good profit for all that running around, then why in the world would I do it?". Or they just flat out tell you: "I only do combines for guildies", I've got that response I don't know how many hundreds of times when looking for parts I couldn't make for myself. Nor can I blame them, TS's are a lot of work, and most people aren't all that altruistic, especially in a game that's all about advancing yourself. The pure tradeskiller is a rare breed when compared to the total population.
