  • Gnomicide = trophy ??!

Today made me really uncomfortable with the decision to force us gnome tinkers to participate or contribute otherwise to killings of our own brothers and sisters who where sent on the mission to Solusek Eye dungeon.

As an apprentice tinker I was offered a task to obtain appropriate trophy to show off my skill and dedication to the craft. Among many contraptions I was asked to produce as a proof of my abilities, was a thermal cloak. To make this device I needed to procure a tattered gnomish cloak, which was rumored to be a rare possession in the hands of Solusek goblins, which they could have only obtained by killing and pillaging my fellow gnomes. Armed with this knowledge and with my gnomish contempt for goblins of any kind I went on what I could call a killing spree in the halls of Solusek goblins’ domain to avenge the deaths of poor gnome miners and recover their possessions. I slaughtered numerous kings, torturers, drunks, bartenders, foramen, high shamen etc, etc. but to no avail. As it turned out the notorious cloaks were, in fact, still in the hands of Solusek mining company members, as was handily demonstrated to me by a dubiously looking necromancer who was preying on gnomes in the mines. He had great number of these bloody cloaks stuffed in his bags in very short period of time!

I can only think it is a dastardly cruel joke to make direct or even indirect killing our fellow gnomes a part of our professional rite of passage. Even the mere existence of such a recipe in our skill tree is offensive to me!

Actually, I have a number of the tattered gnomish cloaks stored on my tinkering gnome, and I haven't gotten them by killing gnomes in Sol A (Solusek's Eye). I wish I could remember where I'd gotten them, but, frankly, I can't. As near as I can remember, however, I do think I've gotten most of them off goblins and other mobs in Sol A that didn't hurt my gnome faction a bit.

Indeed, old Allakhazam entry suggests that the named goblins in Sol A who used to drop this cloak with some rarity. But it was not the case as of today, and it was clearly gnome miners who had to be killed to obtain this component.

I wonder if developers could look into this issue, although I would guess it is rather minor for most of the population.

        Heh.

Did not know that. Will see if I can find anything else in that range. No ETA though. I will be putting broken things before "uncomfortable" things

          Problems with tinkered catapult

I have tried the recipe for this in both a deluxe toolbox and collapsible one and it does not work in either one. Hard to do the quest when you can make the item needed

Restring the bow you are using with hemp string. Hemp strung bows are the only ones that work. Hemp string + bow in a fletching kit, 16 trivial, no fail, IIRC. Catapult combine should work after that.

              Retry

Retried with Hemp Recurve Ashwood Bow and still tells me I cannot combine.
HELP!!! Even the restring failed. LOL

                Strange but True

I kept trying and it still did not work until I opened up my toolbox with the control - right click. I had never made one of these before and the recipe was there. I hit combine and it worked for some reason when doing it on experiment did not.

Perhaps it drew an item from inventory that you had stashed away but had not put into the experiment box?

If you were able to restring the bow, then you were originally using the wrong bow. When you retried it with the correct bow, you must have placed an incorrect item in the toolbox, or left out an item.

I have been trying to get this cloak for 2 days now slaughtering just about every mob in Sol A multiple times and have yet to see a single one drop. I have just about completely burned my home city faction making this single item to obtain quite disappointing for the end reward. I think ill work Tinkering up more before I try to get this again as it is to much hassle for such an item.

This is bad, can not seem to get the cloak to drop in SOL A for the Thermal cloak comine. Why would you put such a rare drop for a quest like this, none of the other tadeskill quest needed this mush work for a combine. SOE needs to either change the combine or the drop rate for the cloak...

Tell that to the brewers looking for a stone bean, or the tailors who cannot even make their trophy because one of the recipes is alchemy dependant and flat broken.

For what it may be worth I just checked and there's 3 tattered gnomish cloaks for sale in the bazaar on my server this morning.

I can change this. But the only appropriate other things were

mana battery class 5 (OoW drops)

                              and

Perpetual motion Machine (GoD (magnetic) drops)

Do you guys prefer one of those over the gnomish cloak?
