  • Mottled cloak and another thing found

Was poking around Magelo's newest items and found these:

    Mottled Cloak - http://www.magelo.com/eq_item_info.html?num=2327

    Engineer's Toolkit - http://www.magelo.com/eq_item_info.html?num=28220

Mottled Cloak is the long-missing ingredient for Fizbins Guise; unfortunately, magelo doesn't tell us anything except that the item was found. The Toolkit is another tink mod item... usable by gnomes and frogs

Whoa. The item ID on the cloak is very low, indicating an old-world item.

Master Fisherman (200) and possibly Drunk (2xx + 20%), not sober enough to tell!

I'd guess that it's something that was in the database forever, and thus used in recipes - just never actually itemized until now? Or maybe just not found, always hard to tell. Either way, I'm curious...

It was also added to eqitems recently - http://eqitems.13th-floor.org/item.php?id=2327 - but still not on Lucy.

No mystery there; Luclin and Veeshan merged, retaining the Luclin name. =)

Tell me more of this "Fizbins Guise", what's it used for?

Here's it been on since Feb 04:

Fizbin's Guise doesn't do anything. It doesn't exist. It is made using a Mottled Cloak that no tinkerer have ever laid eyes on, save possibly Frizznik himself. The Mottled Cloak has been in the batabase for a while. You can pull up Fizbin's Guise in the tradeskill UI and inspect it. Its just never been found in game.

If this is true, then Redi is most likely correct, this has been in the database for a long time, and just never itemized, or some similar situation.

Exactly, Evram - and the Mottled Cloak now showing up in Magelo's database makes me think someone actually found one in game.

Interestingly, though, Fizbin's Guise shows up in Lucy dating back to 01/05 - http://lucy.allakhazam.com/item.html?id=16874

If I remember correctly, it appeared in the database about the time they put in the new tradeskill UI.

From the magelo item number and the fact that adjacent numbers are in North Karana seems like this may well be too.

RE: Mottled cloak and another thing found

I have spoken to Nilwean and a few other people who have subbmited this item for databases. Nilwean and the others did not find nor own this item, they were using the new bazzar/barter system and found it on peoples "want to buy" lists. So....... the search continues.

Stop searching. It doesn't exist. Its in the database, but not on any loot tables anywhere. Therefore, it does not exist. Frankly, I wouldn't mind a final word from someone like Ngreth that it doesn't exist so we can put this discussion to rest, but there is no way this thing has been in game as long as its been in the database and no one has ever seen it.

A couple excerpts from Wikipedia.org, when I typed in "Fizban":

Paladine, "The Dragon's Lord", is a fictional God from the Dragonlance fantasy novels written by Margaret Weis, Tracy Hickman, and numerous other authors. He is the chief of the Gods of Light and the creator of the Elves. He is also the patron of the Knights of Solamnia, specifically the Order of The Rose. His colors are silver and white and he influences order, hope, light, rulership and guardianship, as well as law, wards, thought, and war. His earthly avatars include the Platinum Dragon and the muddled old wizard, Fizban.
Fizban "The Fabulous" is secretly the mortal avatar of the God Paladine. Though he is wise and powerful, he diguises his true purpose in the form of a clumsy and absent-minded wizard.

During the Chronicles Trilogy, Paladine helped the Heroes of the Lance indirectly through Fizban. The kender Tasslehoff Burrfoot, one of the heroes, also became a close friend of Fizban.
I'm scrolling through alla's beastiary in search of a paladin (since Fizban is the incarnation of Paladine... paladin is just one letter off from that) or something that would resemble a kender, since Fizban became a close friend in the series apparently... does anybody have any ideas that could be related to this, or has anybody read the Dragonlance series to give us any more information? It might be a dead end, but the similar name between the book, and the name of the item ("Fizban's Guise"...) make me think that the two are related somehow.

... I just got an idea. If Paladine came down as Fizban, a half-witted wizard, it would make sense for the item in game to be "Fizban's Guise"... is there some wizard somewhere, probably gnomish, that if you hail you get some sort of clumsy or absent-minded response? Preferably in the old world...

I very much doubt that Verant would have taken such liberty with the IP of another popular fantasy franchise like Dragonlance.

I think it highly unlikely that this has anything to do with Fizban.
