The problem that just about made me want to cry, though, is the effect of mastery AA on very high trivial combines. That just about slams my hopes of tinkering my own armor, though I haven't fully given up yet.
Here's what I mean:
Pickle has 188 smithing and 243 tinkering, and blacksmithing mastery 1.
GM bp: 386
188 + 5% (+1 AA)
Ajusted Skill = 197
Success chance = 14.5%
With 2 AA = 28.75%
With 3 AA = 52%
243 + 5%
Ajusted Skill = 255
Success chance = 17%
The debate I'm now faced with is, is it easier for me to grind out the AA while camping the materials anyway than it is to do it the way I wanted to and get to 275 tinkering to have the same chance of success.
Maybe I'm just in a complaining mood after spending hours with two foragers in POI and coming up with a single stack of grease.
