If its rechargable in a tradeskill combiner, it has the 'tradeskill' tag.

Shrinkers, growers and gauze presses all will have the tradeskill tag.

No upgraded versions to be expected.

Now why they called it a 'half capacity' GVD... well the breastplate idea makes sense.. sort of..

It wasnt broke before and no one had a problem with it being 5 charges before it was made into a BP and 10 charges after..

For some reason the GVD being renamed to half-capacity is ringing a bell in my head ... did they (or someone here) discuss a half capacity GVD sometime in the past few years, before this patch?

Yeah I gave up personally. I'm going to assume an improved GVD doesn't exist but I'll check back here every week or so just in case. I don't mind expending tens of thousands of plat and hours/days in pursuit of something trivial, but there has to be surety to me that it's not a wild goose chase over something that doesn't exist.

One item they definately overlooked was the "Greasy Diagram Book' sold by the gnome pirates in Iceclad. This the original source for the Gnomish Vanishing Device. Unlike most recipe books, this one lists recipes by name with all items - no translation
needed. Well - the text of this book has NOT been changed (as of this posting).

Minor point i know but was rechecking source to see if new recipe got added (it didnt).

            Half charged...

I guess I cannot agree with the people that think this is not upgradable.

There are only 2 items that I have found so far that have a new "this item can be used in tradeskills". One is this item, and the other is the Helm of Nocturnal Phantasms, Why would sony bother changing it if there was not a reason. Sure, fine some of the things sony does can't be explained, but do you really think some programmer had nothing better to do but add the tag just for kicks??

Both are used in upgrades of some sort just because it's not figured out doesn't mean it doesn't exist, I myself think that either or both will be upgraded with a lightning core just like magnitized armor, or maybe the Pyrilen flame like Bazu's armor. Both are used in smithing and pottery already.

The GVD has always had a "this item is used in tradeskills" tag on it cause recharging it is considered a tradeskill combine.

Changes are made via scripts (i.e. programmed instructions). This makes it very easy for them to miss items or overlook erroronious results.

Back to the question at hand tho: there are 3 possibilities regarding the Half Charged Gnomish Vanishing Devices (HCGVD).

                  1) name change - nothing else
                  2) HCGVD can be upgraded to a better version
                  3) New Recipe for creating better version without the HCGVD.

Personally, I think it will be #3 -

I'm willing to bet that whatever the new recipe is. It will use Magnetized bolts instead of regular ones. So I tried a few tonight with no luck...

                    Tried:
haze, small Lantern, refl Shard, steel wire, Magnetized Bolts, Class5 Bat, Diamond

Found a Chimera Lion's Eye that isn't listed anywhere as having a use. According to Lucy, it had the tradeskill tag added to it in the last patch so...

                      All the following DNC:

Chimera Lion's Eye, diamond, small lantern, reflective shard, gnomish bolts, steel wire, class 5 battery

Chimera Lion's Eye is mentioned in the poisons book as used in poison.

Ah, I had seen that the Chimera Bull's Eye was a poison component, but I hadn't seen anything about the lion's eye. Haven't read any of the poisonmaking stuff though, good to know.

Lightning core is used in smithing. Specifically for plate classes. I wish I had a tinkerer to play with.
