  • Steam-Powered Piston??

Has anyone figured out how to make this yet?

  • #2
    According to the "Scratchpad":

"Figures nobody has steam pistons. Make own. Have to do ALL the work around here!

    2 Metal rods for piston
    Grease
Need some sort of gasket, probably a couple. Have to test configuration
Heat source and water for steam
    Some sort of sealant
Probably need enchanted metal for outer shell"

Would suggest perhaps the boot gasket (or similar item) noted in other posts. Sealant probably the one now on tinkering vendors (at least in AS). Hard to say which enchanted metal but we do have a number to choose from there. Heat source, possible the one on JC vendors in AS called I think a Gnomish Heat Source?

      tried the following

      Have tried:

      2 boot gaskets,
      2 metal rods,
      grease,
      sealant,
      gnomish heat source
      water

as base items and tried combination of

      1 copper sheet - dnc
      2 copper sheets - dnc
      1 magnetized brick - dnc
      2 magnetized bricks - dnc
      1 copper + 1 magnetized - dnc

even tried 1 and 2 brick versions of silver, electrum, gold, plat and velium. all dnc.

But did you try enchanted silver, gold, velium, steel, etc?

        He did say "enchanted" ...

          Maybe Enchanted Sheet Metal?

Since the enchanted metal is for the shell, I am guessing that enchanted sheet metal of some sort might be what is needed.

have you tried with various amounts of gaskets? I believe the gnome said he would have to experiment a bit with that part.

It mentions steam, heat source for heat and water for steam. Instead of gnomish heating source he could mean perpetual steam pump. It would fit with the basic structure of tinkering. Lets see, what else is enchanted for metal, hm, could be steel brick of some kind. I doubt it would be an enchanted cultural sheet of metal since making us have to buy sheets made from another race's smithing is a little too cruel for them to do.

I don't think the enc. sheet metal is a cultural combine, it just happens to be used in human cultural smithing. It can be made in a normal forge by anyone according to the recipe.

I have tried it with both 1 then 2 boot gaskets for each attempt, still no joy.

                        An APU is another possibility.

Maybe the sealant is the issue - the books says "some sort of sealant". Maybe the store bought stuff isn't the right one and there is another combine we are missing.

Do you think a Perpetual Steam Pump has anything to do with this recipe? I know a few have discussed it, I am going to try this afternoon myself.

Has anyone tried a magnetic patch plate made from a magnetic brick?
