  • Hizniltot's Scratch Pad

I found this on the tinkering vendors in Abysmal today ...

Ginth needs more knives. Find way to make more in field, hate going to get more.

    Stupid Ginth.

Try this: Steam piston - need 2 Good blade of some sort
Several sheets of high quality sheet metal to build casing
    Rod for handle, I suppose
    Bolts to hold it together

    Probably need a power source

Figures nobody has steam pistons. Make own. Have to do ALL the work around here!

    2 Metal rods for piston
    Grease
Need some sort of gasket, probably a couple. Have to test configuration
Heat source and water for steam
    Some sort of sealant
Probably need enchanted metal for outer shell

    Blade pattern for blade.
Still need to find right material to make it from.

That worked. Should be able to keep it charged with mana battery.

Find supply of sheet metal to give to Ginth.

    Toy for Niece.

Must make noise (revenge on brother-in-law)

Simple toy, just make rods into a stand, use metal twin to suspend balls.
Metal clacking together makes child happy and annoys in-law.

Need better clackers, perhaps a smith can use the mold I made to make better balls.

    ~~
    Have fun, gang!

I note that the first volume of "Ice Cream is good" includes mention of a "boot gasket" that a friend had "sewn" as well. Does anyone have the slightest clue on where to find any gaskets, or how we should make one?

Seems the boot gasket recipe is MIA from the books. Rather than have folks pull out their hair for a couple of weeks, as it's not a combination folks would think of, I've added the recipe to the database.

The toy for niece sounds like one of these:

The metal twine (metal twin above is metal twine for those who didn't grab the book yet) and rods are easy. So it looks like we only have to figure out the balls and the combinations of parts. There's a new Bearing Mold in Abysmal Sea and other merchants that sell molds.

            In Rivervale Forge:

Bearing Mold + Metal Bits + Water = DNC
Bearing Mold + Metal Bits = DNC
Bearing Mold + Metal Bits + Water + File = DNC
Bearing Mold + Water + Small Brick of Ore = DNC
Bearing Mold + Water + Large Brick of Ore = DNC
Bearing Mold + Water + Small Piece of Ore = DNC
Bearing Mold + Water + Small Brick of Medium Quality Ore = DNC
Bearing Mold + Water + Block of Medium Quality Ore = DNC

            In Collapsable Toolbox:

Bearing Mold + Metal Bits + Water = DNC
Bearing Mold + Metal Bits = DNC
Bearing Mold + Metal Bits + Firewater = DNC

Any ideas? Maybe a dropped metal in OoW?

The new bolt mold is used with magnetic metal bricks to make magnetic bolts and magnetic filings. Possibly the bearing molds require the magnetic metal bricks as well. Magnetic metal bricks are made from reducing down damaged magnetized armour.

However for this kind of object I'd think that magnetic balls whould be the last thing you would want to use.

                Steam Piston guesses:
(rod x2) 2 Metal rods for piston
                (grease) Grease
(boot gasket) Need some sort of gasket, probably a couple. Have to test configuration
(gnomish heat source? & water) Heat source and water for steam
(sealant from vendor) Some sort of sealant
(sheets of copper?) Probably need enchanted metal for outer shell

(knife cutting blade pattern, vendor) Blade pattern for blade.
(copper sheets? From vendor) Still need to find right material to make it from.

That worked. Should be able to keep it charged with mana battery.
Find supply of sheet metal to give to Ginth.

                Knife summoner (stamper?) guesses:
                (player made) Steam piston
(2x blade pattern from new vendor) need 2 Good blade of some sort
(4x hqs?) Several sheets of high quality sheet metal to build casing
(rod) Rod for handle, I suppose
(New bolt mold?) Bolts to hold it together
(mana battery?) Probably need a power source

Maybe uses a sheet of metal as a component? It stamps out a stack of throwing knives?

Gello, I notice you didnt try Mold Ore and file combines, like the elemental cam combines that dont use water. I'll try that later.

I've got 6 Magnetic Metal Balls to try this recipe:

"just make rods into a stand, use metal twin to suspend balls"

But I haven't gotten it yet. It sounds simple enough, but I got nuffin'. Here's what I've tried, even throwing in a metal fastener at the end because I was desperate.

                    (All DNC)
                    1 metal twine
                    1 metal rod
                    0-6 mag metal ball

                    1 metal twine
                    2 metal rod
                    0-6 mag. metal balls

                    1 metal twine
                    3 metal rod
                    0-6 mag metal balls

                    1 metal twine
                    4 metal rod
                    0-5 mag metal ball

                    2 metal twine
                    2 metal rod
                    0-6 mag metal ball

                    2 metal twine
                    3 metal rod
                    0-5 mag metal ball

                    2 metal twine
                    4 metal rod
                    0-4 mag metal ball

                    1 Metal Fastening
                    1-8 metal rod

                    2 metal fastening
                    1-8 metal rod

                    3 metal fastening
                    1-7 metal rod

                    4 metal fastening
                    1-6 metal rod

                    1 metal fastening
                    2 metal rod
                    1 metal twine
                    0-6 ball

                    1 metal fastening
                    1 twine
                    3 rod
                    0-5 ball

Any suggestions? It sounds like it should just be metal twice, rods, and these magnetic balls. Do you think it is a two-part combine? Make the stand, then the toy?

Never mind, I finally figured out the "toy." It's posted in the OoW submission here.

But I'll repost to save you a click (and I'm just happy I finally got the recipe):

                      Tinker:
                      3 Metal Shaft
                      5 Magnetic Metal Ball
                      1 Metal Twine

                      Triv's at a mere 82.

                      Magnetic Metal Ball is:
                      Smithy Hammer
                      Magnetic Metal Brick
                      Bearing Mold

Combine in a forge; triv at 188.

The book specifically says rod! But NooooOOOoo! You have to use metal shafts!

                      Stupid gnomes.

                      Oh wait...

It was further discussed in some smithing threads. Dragorns in Dranik's Scar occassionally drop damaged (or mangled or gashed etc) magnetized armor. You put one in a forge, along with a smithy hammer, and you get bricks back.

I must have killed 20-30 before I got a piece of armor, and that's not including the other mobs that spawn in that area.

Dragorns i think anywhere have a chance of droping em. Ive gotten magnetized armor off of dragorns in Harbingers Spire and Bloodfields zonein areas.
