  • LOVIN' the LoY robes

Now, I didn't think I was EVER going to get my tailoring up. I mean, it is one of the worst trades to gain skill in expecially as a Dark Elf and I'm not rich and a Cleric to boot so not a lot of solo farming I can do.

Then LoY came out with these neat-o new fangled robes! I started vendor farming any Wing of Xegony's(it was the only one I could remember at first) I could get my hands on. Started foraging Clovers and Ashweed every now and then. Saving them alll up for when I could start making them.

Now of course the only thing keeping me from making these robes was a researcher. I had a wizzy and an enchie but didn't really have any desire to PL them... In came my hubby who had been pestering me to let him have my twinked-from-halloween-event-over-a-year-back wizard and I was like "Nuh uh!" but Sony was about to get rid of low levels being able to get Aego so decided he could help me PL her to 20 (she was 16). Then after 20 he kept playing her and got her to 24 in a single night... Then up to 30.. He still wanted her nd he was still levelling her so I told him, get her to 40 and he could have her. I ended up breaking down at 35 and letting him have her but my point in this looooong part of my story is he levelled her, paid some training points to get her research up (cuz Fates forbid the man actually try and do his own research *rolls eyes*) and I started working on getting it up to max for a 41 Wizzy.

So I got her her lexicon thing from the guy in Gunthak (which btw he won't give it to you at 100 skill but WILL at 101 skill) and started making my swatches with a 130 skill. Course by this time I had learned what other research items I needed and had started vendor farming those as well.

The sole pupose of this entirely long story was to give the background for telling you this one simple thing....
I started making robes at a skill of 164, have only made a couple stacks worth of combines and am now already at 169 (getting 3 of those rises yesterday with the 15 combines I had). Success rate is really nice as well. Out of those 15 combines yesterday I succeeded on 10 Robe of Wings. Only thing that is a hinderance now is they don't sell too fast (even had the lowest robe priced at 50pp and no takers) so my trader mule is getting sorta full. :/

So anyone wanting to use robes to skill up on do NOT be discouraged by the >200 trivial on them. I would go so far to say you could start on robes as soon as you are done with Wu's and still have a pretty good success rate.

Goodluck everyone with their tailoring! I no longer dread the hell that it is and have a newfound enjoyment for it. Maybe others can too.

The first robe doesn't sell very well. But the third robe, trivial at 232, sells just fine at 100 pp -- I sell about one a day.

You'll love robes until 232. After that you might find the occasional Rune of Ellipse, but good luck on ever finding 73 right or abrogation -- those are rare and highly sought after.

I've worked on making all 36 of the LoY robes, and the last few dark elf robes are the hardest to get parts for.

I did same thing for Iksar tailoring.

Bazaar / PoP / guildies got me tons of words (and I really mean tons). Start early, pay low.

I spent hours foraging in SoNH and DL for dyes components on second boxed druid. Skilled on ribbons from 120 to 180. Then made robes.

About 700 robes later, I'm at 225 tailoring. Now for the good part...

Robes have a very high success rate. So I didn't loose many to failures. And of these 700 robes, I sold about 400.

I invested roughly 100k to buy words, ribbons, dye components. The 400 robes I sold already fetched me about 500k.

For iksar tailoring, I don't sell the first 2. It's not worth it imo.

Then I do 65pp, 300pp, 1000pp and 4000pp. I sell roughly 10 different robes daily, mostly the asylum one (300pp).

I dont know if its just on tholuxe, or just for gnomes, or what but i have been buying every word of neglect and rune of the astral for loy tailoring for about a month and have managed to collect only two stacks of each. I buy all of them 40pp and under, and at this point the only things left are the 200 pp astral runes (and one guy selling it for 2500 pp). Are the gnome ones just more rare or are people just not selling them on my server?

When I first started skiling up on the robes, I kept the prices a bit higher than I would have liked. I felt this was necessary to prevent a price crash on mid-level robes.

Now that a few others on my server started making and selling the robes as well, they of course undercut each other until the market bottomed out.

            *shakes his head*

They just don't understand that selling 2 robes for 500pp each is better than selling 10 for 100pp each.

It's not the fact that the tailored robes have gone down in price that bothers me. It's more the fact that why would someone pay 5k for a Froglok Bonecasters robe (nice mid-level robe), when you can pay 800pp for a comparable tailored robe. It's not just killing the prices on tailored robes, but mid-level robes in general. I spose that it's bound to happen and already has with other skills.

I guess i'm just sentimental about the fact that eventually camping something for robes like the Froglok Bonecasters robe will be a complete waste of time.

But then again tailored robes are great to skill up on.
