  • Spiderling Silk and Spider Silk

Just looking for some insight on where everyone likes to farm their silk. I've been doing some vendor mining and I tried farming in Innothule and Everfrost Peaks so far. I tried out East Karana but it didn't seem as good as it was made out to be, I sure didn't get 8 silks a crag. :x

I'm a level 56 Wood Elf Ranger on Kane Bayle, if that helps a bit btw.

    EDIT:

    How good is this guide?

    http://www.eqtraders.com/articles/article_page.php?article=g110&menustr=040110000000

That's the one I've been following, I just want to make sure it's not outdated or if there are better methods or whatever now, thanks.

Don't give up on East Karana just yet
I've done pretty well there farming spider silks and cat pelts. Last night seemed to be unusaully slow for cats dropping pelts but I would say that was just an off night and plan on going back asap.
The only other place I know of that has a similar drop rate for silks is in Crystal Caverns.... good luck!

Crag Spiders can sometimes drop up to 8 silks....

As for a guide.... well just kill anything and everything that moves. IF you JUST kill spiders you will eventually run out.

From a Druids point of view i usually use BooBoo (my little bear pet)... But now i have DireCharm, I will try a Griffon, see how that works instead of BooBoo!

Drachnids in FV also drop decent amounts of silk, as well as cash/cash items, as long as you can kill them at a decent rate. Oh, and they're also very social.

Also, that guide is rather old, and there are a few alternate paths for skilling up now (woven mandrake, greyhopper boots and LoY ribbons all spring to mind here).

I second the advice to not give up on EK. I've farmed a lot of silk and tested out all the places and nothing has ever come close to EK for silk drops.

No, you don't get 8 silks a crag, that's just the upper limit on their drops, but you should average 2 silks a spider or so. You won't get that anywhere else, nor will you find the density of spider population anywhere else.

If you can manage to get there during 'off-hours' on your server and not have a lot of competition, you should get several stacks in an hour. Also, if the spider population seems to be dropping, kill the snakes (chasm crawlers). The consensus is that they share the same spawn table and my own observation bears that out.

Actually, it's been said that the Spiders are on the same spawn table as the Snakes, Cats, HG's, Griffon's... basically everything that roams in the zone. If you run low on Spiders, kill the Cats and Snakes to get them to respawn. There always seems to be ALOT of Snakes running around in EK.

I third the advice on not giving up on EK. I was there recently with my druid farming silks. I had a bad early run, no more than 1-2 silks for 15 minutes or so, then hit silken paydirt with several in a row dropping multiples.

Yes, you must kill anything that moves. If you have an AOE capable character, round up all the trash and get rid of it whenever you start running low on spiders. (Though do watch where you are doing this and don't run over others in zone).

Ahaha ok so I go to East Karana today and guess how many silks the first crag I kill has?

                EIGHT!

Needless to say I'll stack to EKarana from now on. 8)

Can also say that Karana is the place to go, if you can kill lots. Even as a class without tracking, I can get a lot of silk by killing everything on the hill where the mucktails are. Wolves, dark stalkers, spiders, kitties, griffs, hgs, gnolls. It all dies. The only things that get to live are the wandering epic mob and any farmers that get chased into the area Faster than guk spiders by a considerable margin, if you have the kill rate. Wouldn't advise it for most warriors, for example. And there's the kitty cat factor. HQ hides for quivers, MQ hides for pottery.

The bad thing about the Karanas? The trackers that leech off your work, homing in on spiders you made to spawn, but not at all carrying their wieght in placeholder killing. They should make nothing that spawns on the hill show up to trackers Ah well, just need to get my cleric to 158 and I'll be set.

FV wasn't that hot. Only drop 2 max, don't drop them that often. But on the bright side, it's not contested and there are a lot of things to kill.
It's up to you, what you do will decide your own fate.

Number one spot for spider silk is East Karana. I circle the zone continuously killing spiders, cats (quality skins for pottery skill ups) and chasm crawlers. I have experimented with selective killing and will lean towards crawlers as the place holders for crag spiders.

Worst I've done is 4 hours to get 20 stacks (10 stacks of swatches).

If the zone is really crowded and I need silk I go to Upper Guk and wipe the 2 spawn areas there. Slow but steady spider silk.

the last time I actually spent time in EK killing spiders for silks I spent 5 days and walked away with just over 2200 swatches. thats with shareing the zone with other silk hunters as well. I did things a lil differantly tho. I used my 55 monk to pull every cat, snake, wolf, dog, spider, anything short of the epic namers to my druid and then just AEd them down rinse and repeat. I would get right at a couple backpacks a night in silks. so I still say EK is the place top go for spider silks.

Upper guk has about 12-15 static spawns that are alright for getting silk too for those of your wanting to be lazy and not run around a zone.

I've had 4-drops before (and the occasional 6-drop, iirc), and I'd say the drop rate is better than you claim. Also (like I said before) the drachnids drop platinum, jewellery and gems so you are making money while farming (which is always a nice thing).

And EK is full of idiots, most of the time I've been there.

The good news about Kane Bayle is that usualy there aren't many people in EK, at least when I'm there. At most, I've seen two other people one hunting cats, the other hunting spiders.

I rarely see other people there, most commonly trying to spawn the dark elf.

I spent a few days in EK (2-3) and walked away with over 250 swatches, 25 HQ cat pelts, 30 MQ cat pelts, countless ruined lion skins, 15-20 griffon feathers, and countless gems from the evil eyes.

I can also verify that crags drop up to 8 silks, I was lucky enough to get one (and then a few that dropped 7 later). I have a screenshot, but noplace to easily host it right now.

                            Good luck!

I farm EK all the time...I pretty much agree with everthing said so far about it except....

The only things that get to live are the wandering epic mob and any farmers that get chased into the area
                              I kill them too

By the way, while there not only farm the cat pelts for selling in the bazaar, also loot the Snake Eggs for selling...sure they don't sell for tons, but makes the Bakers happy
