Skilling up 200-250

Well, I spent about a week setting up 600 solstice robe combines, and 200 rockhopper hide combines. I spent a few hours using up all of these combines and got to 214. Yes, 14 skillups on 800 combines, I have 305 str, dex and wis. I have heard of people getting to 235ish with 800 combines...

My question is, is there some trick to this? I honestly can't imagine setting up another 800 combines and not even breaking the 230 mark.

800 some odd combines got me right from 187 to 244, so I'd say the RNG did bite you unfortunately

On one run of 33 solstice robe combines I got no skill ups and no successes. Next run of 24 reinforced acrylia armor pieces I got 5 skill ups to bring me up to 206.

Just keep hammering at it...at least we can't ever go down!

I get far more skill ups on the items with lower trvials than i do with stuff like velious tailoring and solstice robes. I succeed far more on lower stuff, which supposedly helps. Skill ups on dark elf culturals robes are about 1 in 10 or so for me, while velious is about 1 in 40. I am at 208 skill atm, success rates on robes are in the 90% range and velious leather are 10-15% I am starting to succeed more on velious leathers, but the high failure rate and low skill up rate are absurb, so I am sticking to hopper and dark elf robes for now.

I did 340 robe combines over 2 days to go from 233 to 250 at wisdom 355 after needing about 100 combines for point 232.

I also had the rest of my stats maxed out as well for these combines.

I feel your pain. 209-216 I managed to get in 40 robe attempts. That was 2 weeks ago. Going on 200+ attempts at robes and wyvern masks without a skill up.

Skill ups

I average 37 attempts per skill up. I am currently at 208 skill.

I've had runs as high as 118 with out a skill gain. My crafting outfit with KEI only gets me to 236 WIS.

I have noticed the Acrylia Reinforced gives a little better experience than Solstice Robes but they are a grind to farm.

Im at 197 tailoring. I average 1 up every 39 combines (okay, from 162 to 197 I have averaged 1 up every 39 combines... thats over 1,300 combines from 162 to 197). My INT has been 355 from the get go. dex / agi 150+ always. STR 140'ish, CHA 220'ish at all times. Those are my normal stats. I dont bother getting buffed except I get a KEI when I do combines for ****z and giggles. dont need the INT. Just feel better about having it.

I have gone as many as 160 combines with 1 up. My BEST was only 22 combines with 1 up. Never seen better than 1 per 22. Tailoring is my last skill to work post 220. Its harsh. Pottery has a worse skillup / combine chance, but at least the items are cheap or easily collectable. Tailoring = brutal.

I tend to agree that the closer you are to a triv level, the more likely you are to get a skill up. When i reached 210 in tailoring I switched over to doing ethereal silk swatches (using my geerlok of course) which is triv at 212. Got those two points in less than one stack of combines. At a later time I did 29 arctic wyvern and 20 reinforced acrylia combines and only got one skill up, and it was on the acrylia armor.

Limited amount of data for tailoring, I know, but i also noticed the same thing in baking when I took a character from 0 up to 143 in baking by making fillets.

From 182 to 214, 599 combines so 18.7 per skill up. 22 of these 32 skill up were on ceremonial solstice robes, and I succeeded on only 24 robes.

From all recent "parse" I have seen lately on this board, the average seems to be around ~20 combines per skill up past 180, with a few rare unlucky people needing 30+ combines per skill up.

There's several of them, it's worth the time taking a look at the results. From casual observation, I'd say that success and/or working on stuff closer to your trivial level has nothing to do with skilling up.

edit: My int was anywhere between 255 and 305 during these combines. I never bothered buffing dex.

I'm running a skillup for every 24.1 attempts from 158 through 248...

On the other side...from 194 to 203, i went 1 skillup in 11.9 atempts.

RNG does what it wants.

Total combines from 158-248 has been 2232 attempts, and 59 of them trying to get 249. Life happens, not everything is easy.
