  • Acorns

I have been through a number of threads on Misty Acorns, and still feel like I am doing something wrong regarding these wretched little things.

/rant on I have 2 oak trees in my backyard, and the ground is literally COVERED in acorns. They make a horrific sound when I mow over them... with all the darn trees in Misty Thicket, why aren't there more Acorns??!!!??

    There, I feel better

Now for my questions. I have Foraging maxxed for my char, and I get enough sweetened mudroots to make an army of Epics, but I do not think I have ever foraged a misty Acorn... are these really forageable, or is it possible they have been removed? Or, as is probably the case... am I just having a spate of bad luck?

Ground spawns. Last night, I printed every available listing of spawn points I could find, and was unable to even get one acorn. I tried looking for them in wolf form, hobbit form, and for the heck of it, even used a couple of illusion potions. I found zero after running around for well over an hour. I remember that some spawns are incredibly hard to see (there was something I used to get from time to time in the Kaladim area that was green against a green background), but I cannot imagine that after an hour not being able to find any.

Finally last night, out of sheer frustration, I let the zone know that I wanted to buy the darn things, and the newbies showed up with them.... I am reaching here with this question... but I am trying to find SOME sort of an explanation.... Is it possible that these things have a trivial loot code on them like Warrens used to have? Paying 1200plat for a stack of oil is not making me a happy hobbit, so I appreciate any thoughts/advice!

    Happy Sewing!

It is "my" belief that there is at least one hard to get item in each of the high end tailored items. While some of you may think it's all just bad luck, I've seen difficulty in alot of things. Superb and Flawless Rockhopper Hides are a farmers nightmare. Arctic Wyvern Hides, while not rare they are uncommon to say the least. And for those of us, like myself, who cannot forage or see some things lying on the ground even when it's staring you in the face it's even worse. Yew Leafs? What are those? I think they run the same gambit as Misty Acorns, although I have found a few of the Acorns on the ground while running through Misty Thicket. I've never seen a Yew Leaf on the ground while running around in Wakening Lands.

Don't you go and think Verant would want to make things easy for us now...

Well, it has been documented that they are easier to see without night vision (as the green stands out better). I suggest running around in Human form. Yes, they are foragable. As a 29 druid (halfling), I forage them about 1-2 an hour. But what the heck, I have time. I run through there in places I have had luck finding them and scouring the area. I generally find 1 each time I look. Remember to change your camera view and run slowly searching for the strange green spot (also not that if you are low to the ground that they are *not* always flush with the ground and seem to hover about half an inch above). Hope this helps and you find your pockets full of acorns.

        Yew Leaves...

Those I have seen while running through WL. In fact, I know I have at least 2 in the bank right now.

Well, with this kind advice in hand, I will try again this evening to look for acrons. But I think we all know it is a plot by SOE to keep my tailoring skills down. A Plot, I tell you!

I think Ella eats the acorns...

Acorns seem to be a normal rare forage, but there are at least 3 rare forages in Misty. It makes it very hard to get them. There are also a few ground spawns, they look like bright green emeralds on the ground. Very easy to see. Every newbie hunting the zone finds them. Some hold on to them (like me), some sell them to the merchants (always check), and some destroy them (noooooo!).

As for "rareness", halfling cultural is all about rares. Excellent Brute hides, Misty Acorns, and a mountain of dire wolf tuffs. G'luck.
Tailoring, why did I ever start tailoring? *sob*

Ok. I have to be doing SOMETHING wrong. I found none again last night. Not one. Got frustrated, bought what acorn oil I could find and off I went I give up on these darn acorns. SoE has nerfed my ability to get them!

Brute hides however, I am not having a problem with. I found after a certain level in DL, the mobs pretty much leave you alone (with a few exceptions), so I have been having fun terrorizing the brutes there. The drop rates are not the greatest, but I was pleasantly surprised to get nearly a stack of High Quality hides over the course of a couple hours. Shame they do not drop Blue Diamonds as well

Dire Wolf Fur is actually easy.... just do all of your tradeskilling in Thurg and save them... I know I will go through them quick when I start, but I do have almost 600 of them on a mule.

Forage rate in the arena in Kael is crazy for dire wolf furs. About 2 out of 3 forages will give you one.

Recently (over the past 4 months) I've noticed there is a HUGE reduction in the number of high-end TS supplies that I can forage (39 Wood Elf Rogue, Foraging at 50). I used to get Dews, Oak Bark, and Misty Acorns all the time (roughly 1 out of 5 attempts), now all 3 I'll have to attempt to forage roughly 10-20 times just to get one.

I'd hate to cry nerf, but what else can be the cause?

There used to be ground spawns for the acorns, but I haven't seen any in a while, and I'm in Misty a bit since I use it as a route form PoK to Beholder and EK.

And the painful part? On Kane Bayle, Acors are going 20-25, Morning Dews are going 20-30 and Oak Bark are going 25-50. No wonder why I'm in Beholder hunting the EEs.

Try 50+ platinum for acorn oil on Bristlebane, D.

I pay the newbies now 25p each for the acorns whenever I run to Misty, generally I can get a couple that way. I am going through this stuff at a prodigidous rate, so I know SOMEONE is getting those acorns. /e peers around to find the acorn hog....

                    Hopperr -

I will try to log in one of my accounts on Bristlebane tonight (well, I'll look on all 4) and see if I have any acorns. I have a few lowbie foragers I will forage with while I raid on my SH account (and play SWG on the other PC). If Hopperr is your game name, I will look for you.

                      Thanks Uban.

I appreciate the help. I have in fact also made another toon, just to put on the second box for the sole purpose of foraging. I STILL do not have any acorns

                        Forage
                        Sit
                        Camp
                        Log in
                        Repeat

Takes much less time then waiting 2 mins for the forage button to pop up.
(unless you run on a 386 with 16 megs of ram and zoning takes you 2 mins)

It would be better if these were vendor sellable, cuz then we might be able to find them on the misty and RV vendors, but last time I checked, vendors wont buy them. So many peeps just destroy them

                            those darn acorns!

Just posting to confirm that, yes, you really can forage acorns. But yeah it's a frustratingly rare forage. :? However, I've personally found trying to forage yew leaves much much worse. I've seen the various posts on looking for ground spawns, but I don't think I'm gonna master that technique of finding either of these items.

/em goes back to endless foraging

P.S. Yew leaves on Terris-Thule .. upwards to 100pp each in bazaar.

Each time they add something new to the forage table the chance to get what ya want goes down. So yea when LoY came out with all them dye items the existing drop rate gets nurfed.

Never try to forage if Jagged Pines, there is so much crap in the forage table you never get anything.
