If you are referrignhim to my post, then forget it for now, I used the wrong ribbon prices. However, the rest of the data is reatively sound...I tink..
I tried 6th shawl at 148 skill, + geerlok. Succeeded on 1st try. Your luck may vary. I also had success on 1st try competing 7th shawl, and 8 out of 9 on making padding at that skill level.

My advise, that which i give to everyone in guild doing their shawl.. do your 6th combine at 158... it's cheap and relatively easy to get the pieces for retrys.
I've done a good many 6th shawl combines at 162. Don't do the spool earlier than 158 though. I failed the spool twice (and Wolf Whiskers are Trivial on FV).
A geerlok will help of course.

OTOH, I made shawls 5 and 6 back to back at 118+geerlock tailoring succeeded first attempt, and got a skillup on shawl 6. I did shawl 7 at 158 tailoring, got a skillup to 159, succeeded first attempt. So far I have skilled up to 165 tailoring making the soft fur padding, which I now have 8 of, plus some spare fur. I succeeded on about 60% of those combines.
Just one thing to add for shawl 6, I did actually have the harder to get components for 2 attempts, and just decided to try it at my tailoring level on a whim, as I had just finished shawl 5.
