  • Spider silk bonanza.

    I am on Xev server.
Every time I come to EK, there are people farming spiders for silk.
Every time I come to upper Guk, there are people farming spiders for silk.
In fact, there sems to be a tailoring frenzy, that lately has driven spider silk on bazaar to over 10pp each. I was a very unhappy tailor.

    Then I discovered Firiona Vie.

In particular, I discovered that those drachnids that literally INFEST the DL tunnel entrance vicinity, drop Spider silk. And every time I come there, noone is killing them. Not only that, they also drop up to 4pp cash, and rarely a 10-20pp gem/jewelry. Just yesterday, about an hour of non-stop slaughter, yielded 4 stacks of silk and over 400pp cash. Finally hit 158 in Tailoring, so no more Wu for me.

During all the times I farmed silks there, I haven't seen a single other player come farming. There are other high-level folks running through all the time to or from Veksar, but noone ever bothers with the drachnids.

I wonder if on other servers this place goes unused as well...

There's a couple of reasons for this.

First, the Drachnids used to drop only Drachnid silk. At the time, there were two varieties of it (one got later renamed to Drachling silk) and neither stacked. The sold rather cheaply to vendors, and they had no known use in tradeskills.

Second, Drachnids are considerably tougher than the average farming mobs -- the traditional farming mobs you listed could probably be fought for exp at 20 and farmed easily from 30+, while drachnids are still light or dark blue at 50.

In a patch from two or three months ago, Drachnids were updated. They renamed one of the silk types (as I mentioned) and made both types stack. At the same time, they ravamped the loot tables of the Drachnids to drop spider silk too.

If you're level 60+, I imagine you could farm Drachnids without any major problems; at level 50, you're still fighting them for exp; and at level 40, you probably need a group to take them.

I'd imagine a lack of knowledge about these changes combined with the relative difficulty of drachnids makes them less attractive to the average farmer.

FWIW, I went there (on the strength of this thread) and had little difficulties farming them at 53, except for when I aggro'd about eight of them at once. And my gear is average, at best.

I shall go back there, once I have a nice stock of mana vials and heady kiolas made up.

You must be confusing with Dreadlands Drachnids - those range from 30s all way to 40, and can be a bit tough to farm.

Those in Fiiriona Vie are in 20-25 range. They all seem to be druids, so if you have decent magic and fire resists, you can kill with imputnity.

          What I do

Bring a friend. (both 55+), 2x AOE = one really really really big pile of dead spiders. Does not take long to fill up some bags.

Spiders have just over 1k hps.

            Wow.

Bregalad! Hah. It has been a while.

*pulls off the mask to reveal Kentas underneath*

At any rate, yes, the FV drachnid spiders are hardly touched; the tunnel opens up south of the tunnel to Dreadlands IIRC, and it's very deserted.

There aren't any issues with FV guards except the ones you bring with you, if you're of the evil sort. I do enjoy selling the halberds the tunnel roamers carry.

And the money's better if you're farming because you're short on cash.

In other news, the Nurga spiders are gone now so that route is out (was never sure if they dropped silk but they're just not there anymore.)

Whoa, you still playing, you old rogue? Nice to see you.
Stop by Stratics and say hi now and then! We are hogging the Xev board now, though.

Somewhere else to add to the spider silk farming list - Field of Bone.

I was playing around with a twinky necrognome the other day and did levels 4 to 9 in the pit in FOB. The bonecrawler spiders there seemed to have an excellent silk drop rate, often dropping 4 silks at a time.
