Just finished making silk swatches and they became trivial... what should my next step be? I haven't played EQ in almost 2 years or so.

However, I chose a different route. Past silk swatches, I went to Marus Seru and farmed rockhoppers there. Save all the LQ Rockhopper Pelts and hte Greyhopper Pelts. Use Greyhopper pelt+pattern in sewing kit = Greyhopperhide armor, which trivials at 95. The LQ pelts can be made into Leather Padding which, depending if you smith or not, can be sold for anywhere between 20-50pp each. Past 95 I farmed HQ cat pelts in Stonebrunt off the spotted cats. These I made into quivers which took me to 115. All other quality pelts were skinned down and made into more padding (I smith). Past 115 I farmed Crystalline Silks and made Crystalline silk armor. Past that I farmed silk to make Wu's Armor with the swatches, trivial 158. Past 158 I'm doing a mix of acrylia armor and Solstice robes.
