  • Superb Rockhopper Hides

As I near the end of Wu's and look forward, I was wondering if I am high enough to try the 2 sources (as I understand it) of Superb Rockhopper Hides (DSP cave and Scarlet Desert) for my Acryila Studded Armor. I look a little trial run at both and it seemed like I am not quite high enough level.

    Thoughts?

Hopper cave in DSP can be done with a good, full group of low 40s. Mons Letalis youd probably need a good full group of high 40s, with a good CC person (enchanter, bard) because you are going to get adds out of nowhere.

DSP is probably better because only 1 type of mob spawns there at any time. Its all hoppers or all sambata. Mons Letalis has many type of mobs and they all wander and stonegrabbers are KOS to all and hit hard. Finding hoppers there may be hard.

The drawback of this is, DPS hopper cave is usually perma-camped (not only for pelts to sell in the bazaar, or to skillup on, but lvl 60+ will be farming there for the Lucid Shard that drops there for the Vex Thal Key quest.
Mons Letalis is a wasteland. Usually the only people there are lvl 55+ people just passing thru to The Grey/Ssraezha Temple.

I didnt find acrylia worth doing, I went and did about 60 attempts at LoY ribbons, then right to Solstice robes. Currently working on robes now, in the 170's. Acrylia armor is, imho a waste of time, you could get teh cash required for 50pp per fail on robes a lot faster than you can get hides and acrylia.

I went hunting in Mons Letalis once just as a test run. As mentioned, too many KoS stonegrabbers hiding behind every boulder. To make matters worse, the drop rate on pelts was utterly dismal. Out of a dozen hopper kills, I got one superb pelt, no flawless pelts, 2 damage pelts, and a handful of various quality pelts.

        Caves are better.

The annoying thing about the caves is that it seems like over half the time when I go there on Sol Ro, the sambata are up, instead. I even had them switch once when I had a hopper just starting to run. It despawned on me as a result. I was NOT happy.

Hunted in ML recently. In about an hour: 3 superb, 2 HQ, 2 flawless. But could just be a lucky run.

I made a mistake earlier of killing some Shik'Narr (the blue bugs). Don't do it. They drop no loot, and the faction is irreparable. 2-3kills, and you are KoS, and ML hunting is gonna be hell for you.

Ruining your Shik'narr faction also makes you KOS to them in Fungus Grove, which makes hunting there much more difficult as they line the way out to Twilight, and are slightly higher level than most of the mobs in that zone.

The way the pelts drop, from what I have seen, are pretty much a set pattern. This patern is creature-wide in DSP, being that if someone else kills a hopper and interrupts your chain, they will get that loot, then you get next.

              Flawless Hopper Hide
              Superb Hopper Hide
              HQ Hopper Hide
              MQ Hopper Hide
              Damaged Hopper Hide
Nothing - or the leg or skull
              Nothing
              Repeats

Now, as I have only worked on this theory about 3 or 4 times. I can not guarentee it, but it as so far been pretty much acurate

                Er...

                Huh?

Creature loot is set when the mob spawns. That's why you can see weapons that the mob is carrying, or other things that show on the model (such as light effects from the bile on the wurms in GD). Its theoretically possible that the respawn order would determine what loot is on a mob, but highly unlikely. That would go against anything and everything that players have experienced in the game. Most noteably, on some rare camps, its not unknown for a mob to drop a rare drop 2 or even 3 times in a row, whereas other times, it may go through a couple dozen spawns without the rare drop item.

Actually, that's not true. On Friday, I was in DSP killing Sambata all day (Gained 2 levels. ) and the hoppers were up as well.

I think there might be a stray spawn point that doesn't always flip, but otherwise, the only galorians that should be up while the rockhoppers are out in DSP are the tribals near the ME zone line.

I made the observation that Flawless seems to drop more often than Superb and I've been camping the hoppers in DSP from 50 till I hit 55 (with some visits to CS).

Some days are good with tons of superb and flawless dropping and some days you'll one of each during the same time span. I guess it all comes down to luck in the end.

Hoppers aren't bad exp though. I quadkited them at 54 (sometimes having 2 or 3 quads at the same time, doable with KEI on one full bar of mana) and got around a blue for three quads. HQ Pelts also sell quite well in bazaar and they suplied the money to buy acrylia on the side.

BTW, the Hopper cave is uncampable on my server (Vazaelle). Pop rates are usually fast enough to keep 2 or 3 groups and a few soloers happy.

I'm currently leveling my lvl 33 chanter in DSP. Most groups include the red guys running around the zone and most groups will let you loot the Acrylia if you say you're a tailor. One evening of fighting weilded 14 small pieces, 2 blocks and one small brick.

But then I usually only farm places were I can also get exp. Besides it's boring if it's too easy

I've been camping the Rockhoppers in DSP since late October, early November and I have held and was told when I first started going there that the Rockhopper/Sambata cave in DSP was FFA. This being on The Rathe server. I have to remind people of that on occasion when they say they have this or that camp *grin* Sometimes they get upset when I tell them this and run through pulling a Rockhopper but they get used to it or they go elsewhere. At times, there are too many people hunting the Rockhoppers to call a camp and I see the point of having the caves being FFA. There are times as well that all of the Rockhoppers are dead and I have to wait for a repop and hope I catch it before someone else does. Live by the FFA, die by the FFA hehehe

One of the things I've noticed is that the Superb and Flawless Hides come in spurts. Sometimes you will see a few within about a 2 hour period and sometimes you will see 5 to 10 of each type in that same time frame. Bad pulls? Bad timing? Bad luck? I don't know but I've had times where I would only get 1 Flawless/Superb in an hour and then go back a few hours later and have 4 to 5 in an Hour.

Just for information as well. I made level 61 this past week and I can still get exp on about 1/4th of the Rockhoppers in DSP. This goes for the Wyverns in CS as well.

Grats on 61 Paackets. I am also on The Rathe server, have grouped with Paackets in DSP, and happen to be in the same guild. (Hail *NOR/!)

Anyway, I too am an aspiring tailor, though I only want to get around 200 for the shawl quests. Ceres Whirlwind said he quad kited the rockhoppers. I am a 51 wizard and was wondering if Ceres or another Wizard/druid could give me pointers on the best way to pull them without killing others or myself. I've had a success on 2 out of the 3 quads I've tried. Currently I am invising myself, counting the rockhoppers until I know I'll get a train of 3, then pull the back one and run out. The others aggo me as I run out of the caves. All three times I tried it I ended up getting 5 in my quad, since 2 repoped while I was pulling. I got beat up pretty good running out since their aggo radius is fairly large and they get a few hits as I run past them. The last time, one got a stun in and then I had 5 beating on me, and they went through my skin fairly easily.

So, what is the best way to pull these into a quad? And best as in I don't want to die, and I don't want to be a bother to others.

As a note, I only tried to quad these during an off hour when only one other group was fighting them, and they said it was fine for me to play with them.

Went to DSP last night. Killed about a dozen rockhoppers before tribals started spawning.

                              No superb or flawless hides.

                              *grumble*

Gave up and went to FV instead to farm lichenclover.

The longer I do this, the better of a deal arctic wyvern begins to look like to me. True, there's more involved, and I have to compete for the wyverns with quad kiting druids and wizards that port in, kite as many mobs as they can, and then port out when all of the wyverns are dead, but the drops of both hides and velium seem to be more frequent than pelts and acrylia which is a definite plus.
