  • Tailoring for shawl

    I tried to assimilate the data from the billion or so posts, but its starting to make my head hurt, so I'm wondering if anyone can give me an idea of the path to take on tailoring for the shawl quest. I have around 50k to spend and I want to do as little farming as possible. I'd like to get as close to trivs as I can since I would like to eventually come back and get tailoring to 250 after I finish the shawl (and probably rehab my wrist). Most of the tradeskill guides seem to involve a lot of farming for tailoring to minimize cost, but within reason cost isn't my primary concern.

    I box a 65 chanter/65 druid both with DC. I have all the other tradeskills at around 190 except jc, which i have at 250. I also have jcm3 on my chanter and all the imbues except torment and air. Atm i have about 10 stacks of spider silk though i realize i'm going to need way more. I'd like to entirely avoid skins/pelts if I can. ALso, when would solstice robes become viable?

    I am no authority on buying supplies or paying players to farm items for you, since I do all of my own farming or friends do the foraging for me, but it sounds like you should go the Bazaar route, get what you can with whatever recipe you want to work with and then have other people do the farming for you.

    It appears you are saying that you have enough skills to do the Shawl without much failures, if any, so that should not be too difficult to go through quickly.

    I know of no route to 250 Tailoring that can be done without farming items.

      Trying to learn all the recipes is part of whats making my head hurt. After reading through the faq and xanthe's guide, i came up with a path but i'm not sure if i'm missing anything.

      Woven Mandrake 0->66
      Cured Silk Mask 67->82
      Wu's 83->158
      LOY Cultural 159->till I run out, have a bunch of components for it already.
      Solstice robes from that point till 185ish which is about what i figure gives me a good shot on the shawl combines. Am I missing something between cured silk and wu's and are solstice robes too expensive at this point?

        Between cured silk and wu's you can do crystalline silk.
        There are different trivials for each piece - you can pick your progression from this list:

        1 swatch:
        gorget (102)
        mask/wrist (108)
        cap (115)
        mantle (118)

        2 swatches:
        sleeves/gloves (124)

        3 swatches:
        leggings (128)
        tunic (131)

        These recipies are very simple - 1 silver thread, 1 pattern and # crystalline silk swatches. The cost per combine is 1.102 + silk costs (Wu's is 6.332 + silk per combine). I'm in the process of completing these first, then on to Wu's.

          Hehe Kentarre beat me to an answer for ya. Wu's from 83... ick... the Heady Kiola's...

          Of course if you want to save some time you may try to get HQ Cat Pelts and make Quivers. That will take you to 115 and you can do Crystalline after that.

            Thanks for all the help guys. Crystalline silk seems a bit too pricy to bazaar-farm but since i'll have to get crystalline silk threads i'll prolly end up getting a bit of silk while i'm in velk's also, so i can hold off on wu's until i'm finished with the crystalline silk thread farming. I'm not sure on that cat pelts for the quivers, but i'd guess they're probably pretty expensive to bazaarfarm also.

              The drop rate of crystalline silk in Velks is HORRIBLE.

              Go to Crystal caves instead, to the spider tunnel. If it is not farmed already, the crystal spider tunnel yields huge amounts of silk very fast. I usually got a stack or more per clearing. And the end room also has a chance to spawn a number of named (Queen, retainers) that drop some decent mid-level stuff.

                Picnic baskets will take you 66-76ish I think. They are made from the Woven Mandrake you just made and a steel boning(all vendor bought materials)

                The other thing you can probably pick up in the Bazaar cheap is Greyhopper hides for 76-95

                  One time I vendor mined over 400 crystaline silk from that vendor in CC. Made my day =)

                    There has been a rash of questions on this topic lately so rather than go into it again, I'm going to suggest that you look at an "old" post (from way back at the beginning of this month. )

                    Look at this thread for a couple of slightly different path suggestions.

                    edit: corrected a spelling error.

                      easiest way i found was to do woven madrake to 66 then picnic baskets to 76 then greyhopper boots to 95 crystalline silk to 135 or sacred silk swathes for solstice robes which triv at 132 i believe then after that wu's to 158 then you can use the swatches you made and do robes till they run out

                        crystalline silk

                        Crystalline silk is definitely the way to go until you're trivial in it. Super easy to farm in CC down where the crystalline spiders are. On an average clear, you probably get about 10 swatches per clear, sometimes more. Much better than sitting in velks all the time. I did crystalline silk through the 2 swatch recipes up to 128:

                        http://www.eqtraders.com/secrets/recipes_velious_silks.htm

                        then did wu's up to 158:

                        http://www.eqtraders.com/secrets/recipes_tailoring_armor.htm

                        then succeeded on my first 6th shawl attempt (with a geerlock) and succeeded on first 7th shawl attempt, both with skillups which was nice

                        Hope this helps

                          Crystalline silk definitely worked out great. I got them by AE'ing Velks with a friend which is really easy now. The drop rate did seem to be pretty bad but we were killing them fast enough. I also did a number of quivers from cat skins from AEing E. Karana which is pretty much requisite for all the silk for Wu's. I did LOY ribbons to 162 after Wu's and now i've done Solstice Robes to 176 (14 points in 64 combines with only 1 success). The subcombines on Solstice robes are just dreadful. My poor druid is sitting around doing nothing but imbuing emeralds all day (even while i'm on boring raids). I've run out of silk and for some reason it sells for 18 pp / swatch on my server. So i'll be building a summer house in east karana it looks like.

                            Steel boning is vendor sold now? News to me. Steel boning is smithed IIRC.

                            You probably just found someone skilling up on boning who sold to a vendor.

                              OMG if you spend 50k on tailoring before 200 your crazy. Or you pay too much. I am on Veeshan, and prices are high but I got to 171 for a lot less then that. I just got about 400 Wayvern hides and all the velium I needed and made the combos till I got to 171 and quit. That got me all the way thru the 8th shawll. Now I am doing it again just to hit 200 in everything. With 50k you could make 250. If not do a little farming. It is not like it takes that long, Go auto run towards the next mob and hit the combo button while running. Makes the whole process faster.
