  • Quickest route to 250

I am looking for the fastest route to GM tailoring.

    Cost is not an issue.
I am GMed in most other skills so doing subcombines isn't an issue either, but I prefer to do the least amount possible.
I am a warrior so I can do none of that fancy imbue stuff or anything, I have to subcontract it all.

I have heard Solstice robes are the fastest route to go, but I am looking for input on if that is true. So far I have been doing Arctic Wyvern Masks and Acrylia Reinforced Masks, but the studs and bonings are not really sold a whole lot, and special ordering them takes a lot of time. A link to a recipe or explanation how to do it would be helpful as well.

    Thanks in advance

If cost is not an issue... do it all!

Subcontract for cod oil, celestial essence, and imbued emeralds. Buy up all the spider silks, spider swatchs, velium, acrylia, wyvern, othmir, and rock hopper. It'll cost a lot, but you can get there relatively quickly. You probalby still end up making mostly robes as spider silk/swatch are a lot more common than furs and bricks I think.

Don't bother subcontracting for Celestial Essences; if your bazaar is anything like the one on E'ci, there are many hundreds (sometimes thousands) available at 5pp or less. It's not worth spending the time to find someone to do a special order of umpteen-hundred CEs when they're generally so readily available already.

You will want to subcontract out the Gem Studded Chains, even though you're a GM jeweller; find a JCM3 enchanter and offer them 100 or 150pp each over materials cost for a few hundred chains, and you'll still come out ahead, and make someone fairly happy in the process...

But yes, to answer the original question -- solstice robes are the fastest way (in combination with whatever else is available at any given time).

Tradeskills take a lot of time... that's how they're designed. If you have 500-750k to blow.. just buy anythign you see that you can combine, and do it. Tradeskills take a lot of time.

You may also check the FAQ for tailoring... Your question is brought up repeatedly in it.

Without a doubt wyvern hide masks are the best, IF you can get enough studs. Making studs sucks and i made ALOT, i brought alot as well.
Wyvern hides are easily farmable/buyable because people XP of them.
Cod oil is easy to make, and easy tof ind someone to fish for you at a price.
Velium can be farmed alot in CC, or buyable in bazar temper is buyable as well. I think maybe 100-150K to GM if purely buying items. Seems alot but if i sold elemental combines ive been doing rather than giving to guildie twinks can easily make it back.

The best advice is buy everything. Peroid.

Ya know, cost isn't an issue until you find out how hard tailoring is. It costs about 600k to GM smithing if you buy everything. Tailoring will be more expensive. Think about it.
Tailoring, why did I ever start tailoring? *sob*

Speaking of which, where's my earth silk for wiz?

And seriously, cost is not an issue, if it's fast I have the cash, but it's gotta be reasonable, like smithing I could do pure velium bars, but the cost is absurd.

In that case, look a few dozen threads down the page -- there's a post from someone who did 188 to 250 in 4 days, at a cost of about 150k (which sounds a bit low to me, they may have been a bit lucky on the prices they got certain things for).

They hired people to fish Cobalt Cod, hung out in Cobalt Scar auctioning for AW pelts, bought every bit of velium they could find. Also hired a JCM3 enchanter to make 350 gem studded chains, other people to imbue emeralds and make Celestial Essence.

If you want to do it fast, buy every ingredient you can find in the bazaar, at any price. If you want to do it REALLY fast, start hiring people and do nothing but the final combines yourself.

If you really want fast find someone selling a lot of subcombine stuff for robes and ask them if they want to do a bigger job for ya. I keep a trader on my server for some of that stuff and if I got the tell I would love nothing more than to land a massive combine job for someone looking to GM tailoring. Simply because I'm limited by what I can sell due to inventory (8X10 stacks) and demand and a big order means almost guaranteed sale in immediate future. I also see quite a few people on my server also making the things like imbued emeralds and celestial essences, if your server is similar and cost really is not an issue you shouldn't have too much trouble getting a few people in gear to farm you silks, wyvern hides, acrylia and rockhopper hides. Think of it as paying people to powerlevel your tailoring.

Great thing is, start on solstice robes at lower skill, then by the time you start getting too many successes your little minions should have scrounged up enough hopper and wyvern items that you can switch.

                    quickest way

I found Othmir caps the best way to skill up, one stack usually gets a skill up for me.

Was getting too many successes on Ceremonial robes when I was at 230ish, at least 1 success in 3

Solstice robes are by far the easiest to do in terms of easy of ingredient gathering. Silk and celestial essence can be bought by the truck load in the baz. However, robes have 2 problems build in:

                      1. you lose your gem studded chain whne you succeed. Since they are not stackable and a they have a high fail rate, this is a serious pain.

                      2. Robes seem to have less skill/attempts than other recipies. I have found that I get more skill ups per attempt on wyvern and othmir armor combines.

I would go for otter stuff first, wyvern next, then solstice robes last.

Why hire other people for making Celestial Essence?

Go to the pond in the West end of Plane of Knowledge. There are 2 booths along the wall.
When facing wall go buy Celestial Solvent from the Dark Elf in the booth to your right.

Now face the pond. Go up right set of stairs and in the first door to the right. Go the the first Dark Elf on your left hand and buy The Scent of Marr.

Now you just go find a Mortar and Pestle and get to it. It's a no fail combine, everyone can do it.

Because people (including me) are lazy, and don't like doing extra work.

Anyway this is outdated, I already got tailoring to 250, just lame smithing to go.

I did Blacksmithing and Jewelcraft parts of Aid Grimel Quest at 221 Blacksmith skill! So can you ! Smithing requires insane amounts of farming if you don't want to spend a fortune and I found that it was not worth it to try and skill up any more than that (only cost me 5k in velium on jewelcraft part). But if you have your heart set at 250 smithing for 1750 club then more power to ya
