  • Does anyone else really hate doing Studded Acrylia?

I can't stand it...you have so many chances to fail that trivial ass combine for bits/studs. I can't count how many times I've lost 3 bricks worth or 6 small pieces worth on a stud failiure.

Small bricks > Bonings are np. Big deal if you fail one, AND it takes less bonings whenever doing the combining...but studs sheesh.

I have so many Superb hides in bank that I'm really inclined to do more studded until 188 at least (183 now), but I so much prefer reinforced =/

On rallos so the small pieces market isn't that hot, and I absolutely will *not* pay 100 plat per small piece.

If breaking down ore worked logically, and a Large brick would net you 2 Small bricks, and then 4 pieces, things would be different. C'est la vie.

What is your Smithing Skill? When I was first starting on Acrylia Studded, I learned smithing up to the point of making Acrylia Studs and Acrylia Bonings Trivial, but I too suffered multiple fails when breaking down Bricks and making Studs. Then I decided to increase my Smithing Skill a number of points. This improved my non failure rate of the Studs/Bonings. If your Smithing is low, I suggest you get it to at least 80, I made Lockpicks to increase my Smithing Skill. All items needed to make these are sold in Shadow Haven and Fungus Grove.

        Smithing is 184 =/

I suppose I'll keep the superb hides I get, or most of them, for whenver I want to make some studded just because. It has a decent enough market, and the non-mask pieces have not flooded the market.

Yeah it's a slow-but-steady market, so I basically could break even, even when I bought some of the things I needed from the bazaar (and if you farm everything, you can actually make money). But I'm one point from being done with studded and I can't wait. There's just so many subcombines, it's gotten pretty tedious now.

hehe he says so many sub combines... Wait until you decide to make your own Coldain Velium Tempers... then you may just be saying... "Man I wish Acrylia Reinforced went to 250 instead of 242". 26PP storebought vs 10PP Vendorcomponentsold for the tempers.

              Coldain velium tempers

I made a couple stacks of those... but ended up with also about 2 stacks of leftover Coldain heaters, so I never did figure out my cost ratio (was doing it without CHA buffs). But I still believe it was a lot less than vendor-sold Velium Tempers. Took me like 3-4 hours to make all those though! YIPES! And you have to travel to about 3-4 zones minimim to make them:
              Cobalt Scar
              Thurgadin
              POK
I also went to EC before I found the Scent of marr in POK.

              It's kind of a pain.

I'm fed up as well with acrylia studded as well. It has been 7 months since I finished Wu's armor and started buying acrylia because of Luclin lag with my old graphics card. Even after getting a new card, I haven't bothered farming supplies because I can make more plat quicker with leather padding. And with Smithing at 115 or higher, there are still plenty of failures making studs. But the worst part is waiting for the stuff to sell. I make tunics, cloaks, legs and sleeves because the WIS items seem to sell the best, however, unless you commit the sin of pricing all your items below everyone else's it takes weeks to sell it all and begin the cycle all over.

Last weekend I got tired of this slow progress, priced everything 100pp below the typical market prices and sold most of my stock in 24 hours, coming away with 9000pp which I will use to get to from 182 to 187 doing ribbons. I have 2 1/2 stacks of bamboo shoots saved up so even at 1 skillup per 10 combines, I should end up at 187 in a couple hours instead of months down the road. The only down side is that this is a one shot deal that I couldn't have sustained all the way from 158. I have basically broken even up to this point on studded WIS items instead of losing 200pp per combine doing masks. With LoY, I can cut the cost to 105pp per attempt and finally get onto something else, probably wyvern masks.

Before I started though, I was wondering what skillup rate to expect doing ribbons from 182 to 187 with 255 WIS. I thought I read that the rate on ribbons was kind of high shortly after LoY came out, but can't seem to find any recent data.

That's kind of funny, Pockets, cause I got through studded, and did a stack of Flawless for reinforced that I had sitting in the bank, and now I'm looking at those 350-400 wyvern hides I have sitting in the bank as well... so I started in making some coldain velium tempers (thinking I'd save some cash), and I thought exactly what you said: OMG how did I ever think studded acrylia was annoying??? teeheehee.... I went and bummed some plat off my husband so I could buy some tempers... still don't have enough studs for even a stack of 20 combines. I shoulda been counting my blessings back when I only had acrylia studded to worry about

Oh my wife and I don't have time to slap a trader up for eternity to slowly move acrylia. We always undercut, the product moves, and we go on with our gaming.

If everyone had the attitude and deep pockets to undercut everyone else, then we'd be getting only half the price we are now getting today. But thankfully, most are in the same boat trying to minimize cost while keeping things moving. Therefore, up until last week I'd usually match the lowest price available to get a share of the sales instead of trying to monopolizing them.

Previously, I was getting roughly 1 out of 8 skillups doing acrylia studded up to 182 with WIS = 255. I brewed up a stack of bamboo shoots to test the waters and only got 1 skillup on the first stack of platinum ribbons. I then brewed up two stacks of plant shoots and headed back to Gunthak and got only 1 skillup on the second stack of plat ribbons. This wasn't looking too good. On the third stack, I got 3 skillups by the 15th attempt and then found out I couldn't sell back the plat ribbons that were unused.

So I am still left wondering if skillup rate is closer to 1 out of 20 or 3 out of 15. The sell back was 23pp and cost 104 so a loss of 81pp each attempt. Certainly less than you'd buy superb rockhopper and acrylia to make studded masks which would be hard to sell at 10pp each.

only part i hate about acrylia studded is making masks. you think....well...masks only take one stud, so if your buying your acrylia...masks are the way to go for skill ups. but, they don't sell for any more than 10pp on my server. right now i have 40 masks on my character from doing combines yesterday. i can't even get 1pp off a dang vendor, lol. so now i gotta fill up my trader with that junk. i am so temped to sell them to the vendor; they only sell for like 7gp, so i won't do it out of spite, seeing as to how much i paid for 1 combine...

With the amount of PP you can make farming Acrylia, why worry about selling the Masks in the Bazaar? While it can take a while, if you are an EXPer, when farming Acrylia you can make more PP than you could trying to sell the skillup finished product. Sure, for the most part you are killing Greens but in my estimation it's well worth it.

                              Wow, I LOVED studded acrylia!!

Ok, so I am a decent smith, so I did not fail that much on the studs.
I just sat down and planned to suck it up. Spent about 2 hours doing nothing but making studs. Then I was DONE. I made sure I made them all at one just to get it over with. I will do the same now with boning.

The masks are wonderful - 4 items in a sewing kit = portable!!

I would cheerfully do that for the rest of my tailroing skills ups. In my mind, anything beats minotaur heros brew - nine items and stuck at the barrel for hours at a time praying for one skill up!

Having I stressed how much I loathe brewing lately?
