  • where do you get high quality pieces of ore?

I wanna start on some halfling cultural and I need to make a Vale Sewing kit ... but where do u find the high quality pieces of ore? Is there no merchant that sells them? Is the ONLY way to get them to loot them off goblins??

I believe you can buy bricks from the gnome in the bazar. In the middle where all the merchants are he is the only gnome vendor. He is usually loaded with the stuff. I think you can chip them down into what you need.

Yes, there are several vendors who sell a limited supply of high quality ore. Go to the main site and trade supplies -> smithing and search, and then go to smithing recipes and find how to break down the ore.

HQ ore is a rare drop off of some mobs (forget which) Can also be purchased in the Bazaar, POK and HHK if I remember right look on smithing supplies part of site to double check me there.

In addition you can smelt fine steel weapons down into HQ ore.

Presuming it still drops after the vendors and their restock quests, high quality ore used to drop off Perma goblins and... Sol A goblins, I think? Sorry, been a while since I hunted in either place or checked that is still the case on the web pages.

Have a hunt through the smithing forum and you should find penty of notes on where to find the stuff.

            But to summarise :-

It comes in the usual small piece, small brick, large brick, block breakdown

There are three methods of getting hold of the ore

            1) Various vendors sell the raw ore in varying sizes, there's one in the bazaar, PoK and various starting cities (like Kaladim ) - possibly thurg too - check the smithing supplies list.

            2) You can melt down most fine steel weapons into chunks of varying sizes - probably the easiest if you are high enough to farm mobs that drop FS

            3) It's an uncommon drop of various goblins - notably the ones in Sol A - and maybe the ones in Permafrost (haven't been there so I can't say for definite)

By far the easiest way to get the peices you'll need will be to buy small bricks of HQ ore in the Bazaar and melt them down, or convert Fine Steel weapons into peices/small bricks and break down the small bricks for extra peices. Hunting the extremely rare drops isn't worth it.

You'll need a halfling smith with a skill over 100 to attempt, and 168 to be trivial. Honestly, you might as well skill your self up. Getting to 120 isn't that expensive or time consuming and you'll want the skill later on for making studs anyways.

wow thanks for all these replies ... didnt expect such enthusiastic feedback hehe ... but yeah i did check on the supplies page b4 posting here ... and the thing is that i saw a bunch of places that had bricks of high quality ore and some other stuff, but i need specifically *small pieces of high quality ore* ... i didnt see that anywhere.

However, i had no idea about this "melting down" ... so u're saying I can take small pieces of hq. ore and melt them down into small pieces, huh? Dang ... that sounds PERFECT! Never saw that recipe last time i checked the smithing pages  ... anyone know how to do it off the top of their head?

It's not exactly "melting down", more accurately it's "breaking up"

Small brick of HQ ore + smithing chisel
combined in a forge => 2 small pieces of HQ ore

Smithing chisels can be found at various vendors across the land, but seeing as you're a halfling, you could try Bodbin Gimple in the Druid guild in Rivervale

Back in the day,,, before we could break down ore the only place to get HQ pieces was from an umcommon named gob in Runny-eye and the ord was an insanly rare drop.

Used to go down there all the time to try for it... never got one myself, but a friendly monk gave me one once. I never did get the 2nd, they changed smithing to allow breaking down ore before i could.

                      Good Luck with your cultural...

Goblins in Permafrost uncommon drop HQ ore too. They are easy to kill. But if you just want to make a kit, buy the ore.

Ahh ... thanks guys, especially for your minute details, Malathos!

Hey, one last question (sorta off topic): Once i do make my vale sewing kit, will i be able to replace my large sewing kit completely with it? That is, can i combine all the regular, non-cultural recipes in there too, or is it fit ONLY for the hlf. cultural stuff?

                            Only cultural stuff, I'm afraid.
