  • Bears in Rathe Mountains

I did a search of all boards for the topic but didnt find anything.

A long time ago (18 months ago or so) when I first started tailoring, I found that the bears in rathe moutains were a good source of LQ to HQ pelts. Usually one every 4 kills. I could accumulate a backpack full within an hour.

Having abandoned tailoring for quite some time, I returned to RM this morning in search of pelts for leather padding. Much to my dismay, of the ~150 bears I killed, 4 had LQ or better. I would guess that 2/3 of them had ruined pelts.

Has this been other people experience also?

    Cheers,

Not really, no...I always went to Stonebrunt for quality pelts <img src=http://www.boomspeed.com/sinuuyanea/feliciachaorazz.gif alt="It's the best place for 'em!">

I never farmed in Rathe, but as a long time pelt farmer, I can tell you that they definitely changed the drop tables on pelts in other zones at about the time that Stonebrunt was introduced.

Less - more - I'm not 100% sure, though my perception is that quality pelts of any kind became less common outside of Stonebrunt. I do know for a fact that LQ cat pelts stopped dropping altogether in most (if not all) other old world zones. That may have since changed, but it was certainly true for a while.

So, I can't support your perception for sure - but I can say that it is not unlikely.

If you want padding go to shadeweavers thicket the cat people's newbie zone. There are very low level rockhoppers and some worm(name escapes me now) there. The rockhoppers will drop ruined-hq(no flawless nor superb) hides which can be used and the worm thingies drop shadling silks which can be made into threads which can be combined with the rochopper hides to make padding. If you are high enough you can clean the place out which there is hardly ever any newbs fighting there.

I haven’t hunted in that zone for pelts either, but I’m completely convinced that Sony does change drop rates from time to time. Spiderlings in the froggie nebie zone is a good example. When the frogs first took it over I could kill spiderlings and get from 0 to 4 silks just as I did in other zones. But because of the huge abundance of spiderlings it make farming silks incredibly fast. I returned recently and spend about eight hours farming over three days. Most of the time spiderlings were completely devoid of silks. When they did have silks it was either one or two silks. Only once in those hundreds and hundreds of kills did a spiderling drop three silks and I never had one drop four. In addition to this, the spawns themselves have changed. Only a very few spiderlings will spawn at night now. Instead the area is swarming with low level undead.

What all that blather is getting to is that I wouldn’t be surprised if the drop rate on bears really has changed since the last time you hunted in Rathe Mountains.
