I'm curious what most people make money with in tailoring,,, worked hard to get my skill to 223 and now that I'm trying the market to recoup some pp I'm finding very little items that sell.. Besides some black panther the rest so far seems to flounder.... hope it wasn't a big waste trying to get to GM tailor. This btw is on tholuxe paells but I'm sure its similar on other servers.

Personally I did ribbons to 187 and was very happy to do it. They weren't exactly cheap but it was pretty quick and easy compaired to any other possibility.

I then went on to robes but they worked well in my situation. I have a lvl 53 druid on a second account that did all my imbuing, powdering and making of CE etc while I was on raids on my main char on my main computer. That left just making the silks and the final combines for me to do. Combine with selling robes selling for between 1000 and 1250 when i was making them and it was a very good option for me. I did robes up to 226 when the success rate started getting a bit high for skilling up.

I then moved to assorted othmir, acrylia and acrtic wyvern combines that I had stockpiled from the bazaar when I saw them for sale at low prices. That got me up into my 240's.

If I had to do it again I wouldn't be doing the robes again since the market for robes has since been killed by everyone and thier brother doing them for skill ups after the last aid grimel earring was found.

Arctic wyvern is probably the second easiest velious armor to make -- kill wyverns (or buy the pelts off quadders in CS), fish some cobalt cod, get some small pieces of velium and make studs. A bit spendy to make, I think around 50 pp per attempt -- the market may be a bit saturated on masks so not much resale value.
While this is a popular route due to the ammount of wyvern hides available, it certainly isn't cheep. Assuming you farm both the hide and the velium peices you still have to buy the coldain velium tempers. For ever 2 studs you need 4 tempers (3 to make bits, 1 to make studs). If you buy them from the vendor that will cost you 26pp each. From the Bazaar 14pp is considered bargain basement price (usualy closer to 20pp) and you actual cost for making them is somewhere around 10pp if I remember correctly (and assuming you make the CE needed in the recipee). That's a minimum of 40pp plus enough time to farm up several k in plat if your high enough of a level to waste Wyvern without too much down time (quad kitting, or solo tanking them.).

Othmir is cheeper, but harder to collect as the drop rate of the furs isn't nearly as good. Still, if you can bring yourself to munch the little guys thats a good route to follow. You can even sell the combines! (which 1 stud combeins for artic wyvern don't.)
Tailoring, why did I ever start tailoring? *sob*

you will get good and bad combine runs.. just stick through it.

            last 120 combines.. i got 10 skill ups.. (230-240)
i was in awe because i was expecting maybe 5 if i was lucky.

I did around 30 - 35 Robe combines last night.

              4 Robes made
              3 skill ups (207 to 210) -----> Whoot.

the plan ---> Etherial Swatches to 212
Continue with Robes to 220 (225)
Move to Wyvern, Rockhopper, and anything else i get pelts for.

              Happy Tailoring.

Sigh...definitely feeling the pain of the original poster at the moment.

Had set aside yesterday to work on skilling up tailoring. Due to shortage of reasonably priced components for other skillup options, I ended up doing about five stacks of Solstice Robe combines.

201 skill. 90-some combines (in four separate runs throughout the day). Zero skillups. Four successes, which I'll be lucky to sell for 175pp each at the moment. (Well, the first two were already committed in a trade, so those were good.)

I know it's nothing compared to the runs some people have had, but by the end of the day I was about ready to destroy my embroidering needle and forget all about this whole tailoring thing. :P

I've thrown money at skillups before (spent about 6k going from 199 to 200 in pottery a while back -- was just too ornery to stop before I got that nice round number), but I think this felt worse because it was right at the beginning of the "over-200" range, and looking at the prospect of 49 more points like this is rather demoralizing. (Even if I know that most of those points won't be this bad.)

Anyway, I'm taking a while off from the solstice robes, even if that means I have to slow down my skillup attempts. I think I'll go ruin my otter faction...
