  • Small skill up run

Last night I did 400 solstice robe combines and got 20 skill ups and made 16 robes. I went from 187 to 207. Not sure if this is the norm but i was vary happy with this run. My wiz was 355 and my dex 305 during the whole run.

When will I make too many robes to make skilling on these cost effective? Robes still sell for near 700pp on Prexus but they sell extremely slow. I have about 400 more robe attemps to go with the current stuff I have collected.

Your skill-up ratio was nice. Gratz.

Cost-effective? If you bought all the imbued emeralds, spider silks, gem studded chain and celestial essence, didn't each robe cost about 3.5 k to make? I've never seen CSR's as cost effective. They just seem a bit easier to get the necessary components compared to other possibilities.

Btw, on Solusek Ro, robes are selling at 450 pp. Ouch.

Well, their alot more cost-effective to skill with when you fail.
Failing on a robe takes 3 silks, succeeding on a robe takes 3 silks and a chain.

If I were to buy the components, just as an example on the Rathe:
      5pp per spider silk(x2), 5pp per essence(x2), 20pp for imbued emerald(x1) ~ 40-45 plat per sacred tunare swatch.

even if I pay 50pp to make each tunare swatch, thats still just 150pp per combine, if I fail. (incidently, I can usually buy tunare swatches for about 60pp directly in the bazaar)

Its only when succeeding on a robe does it get more expensive, by costing around an additional 255 platinum for the gems on the chain. (and that is assuming you have a jcm3 jewelcrafted to make those, otherwise the failure rate is about 50% on chains, and that'll bring the cost up to 510 plus 150 for the silk.

At 150 platinum per failure, and 405 (or 660) platinum per success.... go figure. Personally, I'm doing robes until 220-230 or so, then I'll use up all the rockhopper hides and velious tailoring supplies I've collected, and pray.

While the robes do sell for about 1k on the rathe (go us!) they don't sell that fast, so I may switch to other things if my bazaar mule runs out of room (which, isn't likely to happen soon)

I farmed most of the silk, bought and imbuned my own emeralds and had a enchanter friend make the chains. He went 20 for 20 on the chains so that was nice. I did buy the celestial essences for 4 pp each and made some of my own.

I wanted to go Artic wyvern armor but the small pieces of velium sell for 20pp each or more. So figer 6 x 20pp + 26.5pp x 2 = 173pp per mask attempt and on prexus the masks would never sell for more than 30pp if they ever sold. I could save about 30pp per stud if i made my own tempers but that would take more time than I have also. Alot of people pay 5500pp per stack of studs (On Prexus) which also seems kind of high for 20 attemps.

Robes cost me about 20pp per failed attempt and 275pp per successful attempt. So at low levels of tailoring where you fail alot it is cost effective to me. What level will I start making too many robes to make this cost effective?

We also raid every night in guild and I work 11 - 12hrs a day so time is limited and so is my pp.

400 Robe attempts in one sitting? Wow. That is 15.6kpp just on Emeralds (assuming 0 failures). 1200 Silk Swatches (assumin no failures). 2400 CEs (again, with 0 fails) and adds another 5k roughly. How do you guys have the room for that stuff? :? Sorry, that was 20kpp there. You are about to put another 20 on another 400 combines (if I read that right), and you say that you did not want to spend much money because you don't have much? Maybe I don't know what I am up against here (trying to GM tailoring, that is), but I apparently don't have "not much".

Grats on the skillups. Guess I will start farming more spiders. EK beware.

I am a pack rat and usually save anything I loot that can be used for trade skills. Any time I play a twink he gets leveled in places that drop stuff I need for trade skills also. My RL wife plays EQ and we each have 3 accounts so finding room is not a problem.

The problem for me is Plat. I have never been a huge person to farm things to make money. I have been in a guild that raids about 6 nights a week so i dont really have alot of time to farm stuff either. I have also not really had to spend plat on anything except trade skills for a vary long time so when i did get a item that would sell for alittle pp here and there is has just sit in the bank. I was the first GM Human Smith on prexus and so I made alittle pp that way also.

I did robes because for me the parts were easier to get and alot cheaper if I did not make the robes. 20k pp is not alot to spend when working to get GM statis. The new cultural robes are probably the cheapest way to raise skill if you have time to farm and forage the stuff needed. I spent 110k pp to go from 202 - 250 in fletching because I did not want to waiste the time to do acrylia arrows. Altho it cost me 110k I did it in 1 sitting on a day we did not raid.

I have tailoring and baking left then all skills are GM and I can get my earing hopefully LOL.

I just went through 900 robe combines. It took me a week to gather the 4100 Spider Silks. I made all my own CEs and Imbued all my own Emeralds and it cost me right at 50K. And it was a good investment went from 201 tailoring to 236 tailoring. Now I funded this with selling Robe of Tempest. Which is allso going to fund my way to 250. as for Storage I have 3 accounts 2 of which are Mainly storage mules and a bazaar mule. Altho wiht the new trade slots Life will be greatly Improved.

How many robes did you make in that 900 combines?

I quit counting after 100 I think aroud 120 or so. after about 220 or so it seems to me that sucess was about every 6 combines or so. Im getting ready for another batch of 100 combines to see if I can at least get past 240 so i can be 252 with GM needle

I guess I will run a batch of robes up and see how far I can get. I think I have enough for about 200 Artic Wyvern combines that I may try after 220. Thanks for the information.
