  • Rockhopper Pelts

Went to the caves in DSP a couple of days ago.

    Sambatas were up.

Went to the caves in DSP yesterday.

    Sambatas were up.

Its the HIDES I need, NOT the acrylia!

    grrr....

    Anyway...

Seeing as how a tribal worker can sometimes give me a run for my money, I don't think I'm quite up to the job of switching the tribals to rockhoppers. I know the hoppers in Mons Letalis and Scarlet Desert will also drop the hides. I'm not overly fond of either zone, but if its the only way to get the hides...

Anyone have any advice on hunting hoppers in either zone?

I have hunted in Mons latalis a couple of times for hides. It was not too bad. It was me and a ranger who duo'ed. He pulled to the zone line and we just pounded on it. They do seem to drop at least one pelt almost all the time. We were able to get Superb but didn't get any Flawless. Just didn't stay long enough for them I guess.

The hardest parts are the terrain and the adds. They are not too tough for 60 plus players but I would think SoE or Levi is a must. The adds are the reason why we pulled to the zone in but sometimes the pulls can be very long.

If you want to kill in ML for Rockhopper hides, do your best not to have to kill the bugs. They are on a faction that drops quickly and they will eventually add on you during your pulls.

I'm not sure if they are on the same spawn table as the Hoppers, I hunted there for exp and pelts and noticed a few times when the bugs were up and the Hoppers weren't. But we just waited a few minutes and started seeing the Hoppers respawn.

If you don't have to kill the bugs all you have to worry about for adds are the Stonegrabbers or, if you're running along the bottom of the canyon, the triggered caster spawns.. Lesser and Greater Spire Spirits.

A bonus to ML, at least on my server, is that the only people who go there are just running through, hardly any one hunts there. Of course, a tracker is important too.

I have heard that in DSP that the greyhoppers are triggered by killing the named sambata leader. Dunno if it's correct, but you'd better either have a monk pulling or an enchie for crowd control because when I saw them there were like four or five tightly packed in one area and highly aggressive. Unless you're like 65+AA and can solo them of course

Why not just farm the acrylia, sell the excess in bazaar, and use the money to buy rockhopper hides?

First and foremost reason is that the last few times I checked, there were no Superb or Flawless Rockhopper pelts for sale in the Bazaar (Sol Ro server).

Second reason is that even a block of acrylia ore won't buy a single superb rockhopper pelt.

Third reason is that rockhopper pelts stack, and thus you can carry quite a few more of them than the unstackable bricks and blocks of acrylia ore.

I find it highly amusing that SoE listed a number of zones that they're planning on tweaking, and yet Mons Letalis, which is one of the most empty zones in the game and one that is of great interest to we tailors, wasn't on the list.

The named Sambata (Sambata Tribal Leader Garn) is not really that hard to take down. However the entrance to his cave is guarded by a shaman who is *much* harder to take down.

There are no Greyhoppers in DSP, they are just called Rockhoppers. The Named Sambata is Sambata Tribal Leader Garn and if you have good faction with Sambata's you only have to worry about 3 or 4 Sambata's if you are visible to get to Garn's room. You get better faction with the Sambata's if you kill Rockhoppers. I'm sorry if the Sambata's are up all the time. I know what it's like to have a long string of Sambata's up myself and I try to get the Rockhoppers back up at times. I've spent as much as 10 hours in Garn's location trying to get him to spawn, when the respawn time was longer.

One thing you may want to try is get a group to go down into his room and camp the PH location until you can get him to spawn. I do not know what your level is but the PH (Sambata Tribal Keeper) is still Light Blue most times to me at level 60 and Sambata Tribal Leader Garn is Blue. None of the Sambata's in his room will agro if you have good faction except for the PH (Keeper).

And it always seems to happen, when YOU respawn the Rockhoppers, people come out of the woodwork to hunt those Rockhoppers.
