  • VSR BST seeking advise

I am a 14 lvl VSR BST on the new server. I have my tailoring up to 36 ATM. It seemed like quite a jump in trivials to go to studded armor (I thought I read it was "best" to go to just to the next step up in trivials if you are just trying to slowing build your skill and don't have loads off pp). I know there is backpack at 41. I tried to look around for an answer laid out obviously somewhere, so I apologize if I missed it.

What type of route should I take?

    Well....

You can try Bearskin Potion bags till 59 and then switch to Handmade Backpacks till 88. After that.... you really need to get a few levels before you can safely farm ingredients for anything higher.

      Tailoring help.

Being a Val Shir BeastLord I'd do the tailoring quests that originate in Val Shir. You can do the owlbear feathered leggings to about 105 and the ingredients can be gotten starting at about 18th level. Be sure to save all your owlbear pelts also as you can do the Owlbear tunics all the way up to 135 and you'll most likely be hunting them for EXP anyways at your level.

        So..

Hmmm... so you guys are saying one should not try to just step up the ladder of trivial, but go for something a good deal higher. Again, I thought that was not the "conventional" tradeskilling wisdom (say like what I read in Zeralenn's guide). You guys are the experts obviously; I just wanted to understand the logic a bit more.

          Tailoring Quests

If you check out the tailoring quests. You'll see that they start out with lower trivial items and will gradually raise your skill as you try to complete the quests. The rough belt strap you need is 36 the items you make from it are 56 and 68 respectively. The next step in these quests is at 95. Its a progressive tailoring quest that will allow you to get to 135 skill from Mobs around Shar Val.

            Thanks

Gotcha. I looked into it and, like a lot of the Val Shir quests, it is well laid out for adventuring around the area. As of last night, I know of my +2% Tailoring Cloak from the Claw Quest and am through the Black Chitin Belt of the Progressive Tailoring quest that Teg mentions. I looks like the Grimling finger might be a bit tough to get at my current level of 17. Guess it is off to PC to get some levels.

            Thanks a lot for insight.

Any Grimling in the zone can drop the finger bones they are just rare.

At 17 you should be able to solo the Grimling Fishermen near the Paludal Entrance on the islands. They should give you very nice XP and the runes they drop sell for decent money. Remember to pull them back from any possible adds as they are very social and be aware that they run at low health and are very fast. Bring along a shaman to root them and it would be a piece of cake.

They also drop in Grimling Forest more frequently but that would be a little past your abilities just yet.

I'm a Vah Sir Beastlord m'self and here's my method:

1-21: Combination of silk swatches and trainer points
21-35: Hopperhide armor: Killed a ton of rockhoppers in shadeweavers, collected every pelt that droped and just made lots of armor out of the ruined pelts
35-42: Tailored sacks: Used all the LQ and MQ pelts to make tailored bags (In retrospect I shoud've made padding, sold it, and did something else)
43-95: Greyhopperhide armor: Go to MS (Nexus -> Netherbian Lair -> MS) and kill Greyhoppers once you reach 25 or so. By the time you hit 31-32 you'll have a huge stash of greyhopper hides for making armor (Start with masks to 85, then boots to 95) as well as a ton of LQ pelts for mading leather padding
95-115: Drop in to EK and live there for a week or so. being a pet class makes farming rather easy, even without tracking. Collect all those HQ cat pelts for tailored quivers, MQ pelts for making LQ pets and mnore leather padding, and spider silks for Wu's
115-158: Wu's: I probably should've done crystaline silks, but oh well. Wu's.. well.. Wu's sucks, but from 135-158 it's the only really viable route.
158-164: A couple stacks of acrylia studded and leather padding for 8th shawl.

                Hope that helps
