Question about max chance of combine.

I hit 218 tailoring this weekend. I have the shears with 15 percent mod. So 218 * 15 % = 250.7.

My question is should I worry about farming more tailoring items to make my raw tailoring skill go up or am I already at max chance of success?

I have ruffly 60+ hides that I could either combine or sell them back because it would be useless to burn them for anything other than for the sake of seeing my raw numbers go up?

I've been curious about this myself. I have 220 skill and the sheers which adds up to modified 253 putting my at the 252 modified max. However I just had 3 failures for the robe in aid grimal quest and am wondering if i should raise my base skill more. The saps are being so insanely rare for me. I got 3.5 aa yesterday hunting for them and got 1 sap. A friend also got one and gave it to me.

My understanding from all the posts I’ve read is that 252 is the maximum level of skill. Whether this number is reached via natural skill or from the use of an item with a skill modifier has no bearing on the mater. But even with 252 skill you will still have failures. Even an item with a trivial of 245 is going to have more than a 5% chance to fail. And of course everything has at least that base 5% chance at failure. Add the RNG into the mix and you never know what will happen. With 250 brewing I’ve failed five 122 trivial combines in a row. Thankfully they were dirt-cheap. If you have an effective skill of 252 about all you can do is grit your teeth and keep hitting the combine button.

I am very happy at least the spiders can be solo'd who drop the sap. It's more fun with a group, but means I'm not restricted with needing to get a group to come exp there. Was rather fun though yesterday in PoF to have a group with myself(druid), a wizard, and 4 clerics!

So is it 252 or 250 max combine? does anyone have proof of this?

Check the thread on the quest. The tailoring step seems to be pretty universially hard. Personally took me 4 tries.
