  • Upgrading pelts

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned here yet or not, but some tailors skilling up with leather armor may find this quest of some help.

There is an NPC in Gukta (formerly Grobb) by the name of Dar Forager Lumun. If you hand him 3 LQ pelts he will give you back 1 MQ pelt. If you give him 3 MQ pelts he gives back 1 HQ pelt. I have yet to verify if 3 ruined will get you back anything, and I believe it works only with old world pelts.

Now we have a way of upgrading pelts rather then just using a skinning knife to downgrade them.

I've camped Gukta on several occasions for hours, inc. checking for Forager from 8am-11am and 8pm-11pm game time. I have yet to see him as a High Elf. When I had created a froglok a while back, I ran into him on the few occasion. Do Lion Pelts work?

From what I've read if he is not in Gukta he is spawned in Innothule Swamp. I guess he randomly spawns between the two zones but WILL NOT give the quest if he is in the swamp, only in the city. Not sure about lion pelts. In fact I discovered this quest while reading a ranger forum I frequently visit and the poster was wondering if turning in three MQ lion pelts for an HQ pelt would work so that he could make his fleeting quiver. As soon as I get some info on lion pelts I'll post back.

Just tried giving the forager 3 mq lion skins, wouldnt take em. He wouldnt accept 3 lq lion skins either. His text says pelts other than ruined so im thinking only pelts will work and not skins.

I am REALLY disappointed with this NPc. I bought some rockhopper hides thinking he would exchange them...but he wouldnt accept any of them and gave them all back ~ what a loser! I tried HQ MQ and LQ rockhopper hides...he returned them all.

Hoppers, Lions, Brudes - no dice. Basically, anything you'd want him to exchange he doesn't.

              The forager ONLY does

              - wolf (regular wolf)
              - cat (regular cat)
              - bear (regular bear)

              ONLY
              - 3 like LQ to 1 MQ
              - 3 like MQ to 1 HQ

              He does not do:
              - rockhopper
              - lion
              - any pelt other than wolf, cat, or bear

              He does not do:
              - ruined to LQ

This should be in a dead horse FAQ somewhere.

Yeah but it's always good to have a place to put down their frustrations. I mean this reminded me how much it stinks that he doesn't do anything worthwhile for us. What would it really hurt if he would upgrade Brute hides or Rockhopper hides?

Seems sorta strange to want to upgrade LQ and MQ Rockhopper Hides when they are used so much to make Leather Padding. HQ Rockhopper hides drop often enough that making 10 Slot BP's shouldn't be much of a problem that you want to upgrade the hides.

As far as the Hopper hides go, I think it was more of a WANT to upgrade the HQ Hopper pets to Flawless / Superb (at least that's what I was hoping). Since we can't, we complain that he is worthless (at least that's my opinion). Anything that I would want him to upgrade for higher tailoring, he won't touch. IMO the old world Quality skins, even the HQs are best used (skin'em down) for Leather padding.

                      Not entirely true.

HQ cat pelts can be used to skill up tailoring to 115 by making quivers. Considering how easy it is to get cat pelts sometimes (its not unheard of to find two on one mob - although never more than one HQ pelt), this is a good thing for prospective tailors.

Not to hijack the thread or anything but you CAN get 2 HQ cat pelts off of a single lion in EK. It's pretty rare (only happened to me 2 or 3 times in hours of farming), but it does happen. Typically though, if there are two pelts, they are usually one MQ or HQ and one either ruined, LQ, or MQ. I don't know if I ever had a 2 pelt drop that had 2 LQ or ruined pelts; it could be possible though.

Back on the subject of Lumun, it had been extensively tested when Gukta first opened as to what he would take. Back then though, I thought he did accept LQ and MQ rockhopper pelts. I don't see any logical reason why they would have removed this since LQ, MQ, and HQ rockhopper hides are essentially the same as old-world pelts in usage. Even back then, though, the rare pelts could not be turned in or upgraded to. I think everyone heard the gist of what Dar Lumum Forager did and immediately hoped too high.
