Hey all,

I've recently began the Coldain shawl quests and am working on raising my tailoring to the end of Wu's or 158ish skill level for my Shawl combines. My tailoring is currently only 76 (I think) from making picnic baskets for baking MTPs (GM Baker). Upon reaching about 115 in tailoring I plan on doing mostly Wu's to take me to the upper 150's in skill level.

So, my question here is.. what would you recommend is the best way to bridge the gap from 76ish to 115ish?

Looking at the recipes and guides I'm lead to believe that tailored quivers are my best option up to 115, but aren't the HQ cat pelts pretty durn rare? My main is a 63 druid and I should have no problem farming the cats and the spiders later on for Wu's armor. I'm just trying to get an idea of what Im in for regarding time spent trying to aquire dozens and dozens of HQ cat pelts or if there is a better alternative to the tailored quivers that Im not aware of.

I did some Cure Silk to 82,
then a few Handmade Backpacks to 88sih
then Tailored Quivers and Crystaline Silks to get to 115
then I used Crystaline Silks to 124
now I am about to go to 131, the max for CS
after that, then Wu's to 158.

Crystal Caverns how we love thee...

Crystalline silk! Just bring a few stacks of patterns and a few stacks of silver threads down into crystal caverns and skillup as you go along. It's cheap enough that destroying your successes to save room is viable. Or, as a high level druid if there is a low-ish level player there already, offer powerlevelling in exchange for silks.

Just to answer Kenuve's concern, HQ Cat pelts are not that rare. (I even find them on vendors sometimes.) HQ LION pelts are rare, but those are for the fleeting quiver, which trivials well over 200.

I definitely agree to do both up to 115, and Crystalline Silks after. The only other thing to consider is the new LoY Ribbons. Any race can perform the basic ribbon combines, and a 63 druid will have no problem with the foraging. If you can afford it, you can use the ribbons to skip Wu's entirely. And since you are doing the Shawl, smithing the shears won't hurt you either.

Thanks for the quick response. I'll throw in some crystalline silk recipes along with the quivers just to mix things up a bit. I was able to PL 2 or 3 groups at a time on the ground floor in Velks for the silk threads and got the 75 I needed in just a couple hours. So I'll have to see if that works out just as well in CC too.

I'll look into the LoY ribbons too. I'm not familiar with those yet, but if they'll take me to 158 faster I don't mind paying much more...having to spend time farming silks is money lost anyway =)

I recently ran my 46 druid up to about 115 or so, and I went a route that wasn't available when my wizard did it: greyhopper armor...greyhopper skin/pelt/whatever and a pattern! Fairly cheap in bazaar from what I remember, as well! Good luck!

I agree with Enfiniti, cured silk armor will get you to 82 without much trouble. Then tailored quivers to 115. High quality cat pelts drop rather well in East Karana. And when I did quivers I was surprised at how quickly my skill increased. At 63 I assume your druid has fairly high wisdom, if so your skill gains should come even faster.

The crystalline spiders in CC are fairly easy for melee types in their fifties and higher, but you may still have some problems with them depending on your manna pool. I don’t know if your working on AA points, but if you have dire charm, I think druids get a version of this, it could come in very handy. If it’s not restricted to animals only, it would be fun to dire charm the queen spider and use her to plow through her underlings. Since she has a human torso I’m assuming she doesn’t qualify as an animal.

Anyway, the silk drop is fairly good in the hall and crystalline silk armor is easy to make. That will get you to 131. Should you choose to go the rout of Wu’s armor next, you’ll need to make a LOT of heady kiolas and have access to an enchanter to make lots of vials of viscous manna. From what I’ve read the ribbons are much easier to make than Wu’s once you have the shears. But they are also very expensive. However, expensive is a relative term. I’m lucky to have 2k plat in the bank at any given moment. So I plan to do Wu’s as soon as I get my chanter to 16th level. The skillup rate on Crystalline silk was VERY high for me. I would strongly recommend doing that to 131. Wu's is the devil. I made over 800 heady Kiolas to get to 158 in Tailoring.

If you have an alt to store silk swatches on, I suggest you start hunting EK for silk and HQ cat pelts. Just tag ever spider, lion, and snake you see in the zone (snakes are PHs for spiders. Dogs are PH for lions) and then AE them all to death (upheavle works fine). Remember to kill the PHs, most people don't and wonder why others think EK is good for farming silk. Once you have "enough" silk (you never have enough) go off and hunt CC for crystaline silk.
I only recomend you stay with it till you trivial the hardest 2 swatch combine, I just don't think the extra farming for the 3 swatch combine is worth it. Definatly bring a melee to powerlevel when you go to collect swatches, saves so much time (and makes better friends).

Btw, I'm too lazy to look it up, but dosen't Greyhopper trivial out at 95 or so?

Don't do Cured silk, just do greyhopper boots to 95 (1 greyhopper hide, one boot pattern) and save your silk for Wu's later, another advantage is that it puts off the kiola making til after crystalline silk.

I hate kiolas, when I did my wu's run to 158 I just bludgeoned a bard friend into mass producing kiolas for me (2pp/ea in bazaar just wasn't going to happen, and I can't stand making them myself, other than when I used them to raise brewing from zero to.. uh, whenever they trivial).

Personally, I did greyhopper to 95, quivers to 115, crystalline silk to 131 (1 swatch shoulder to 118, 2 swatch sleeves to 124, 3 swatch tunics to 131), then wu's most of the rest of the way to 158 (1 swatch soulder to 144, 2 swatch sleeves to 151, then tunics to 156, the other 2 points I got one off the soft fur padding i made for my 8th shawl armor, and the other from combining my shawl, forget if it was 6th or 7th though)

I just hit 101 Tailoring today and I have to admit the Wu's suck hard. I Blew thru my kiolas way to fast and not looking forward to brewing up more. I'm headed to Crystal caves now to farm some silk. I spent three levels kiting crag spiders in EK so I have a good amount of silk in bank. Also my first alt is a 17 warrior who I will be sending out there to cont the farming. crystalline Silk is def. the way to go, Wu's take to much, but farm Cat pelts while your farming Silk in EK...it's helpful.

Thanks for the advice all. I flew up to 131 on the crystalline silk armors and delved into Wu's. I think I've farmed enough spider silk in EK to get myself up to 158, but the Kiolas, my God!! hehe

Best thing to do with LoY ribbons is to hook up with someone who needs them made for robes but can't skill up on the ribbon.
It may take a bit to find someone willing, but you may be able to split the cost with them. This is the best way to advance with ribbons/robes since its a win/win situation.

Wu's advice

Having just finished this up with a friend of mine. Two things of note. Get friendly with an enchanter who has brewing skill high enough to make heady kiola and who can also make the viscous mana. Farm silks in EK ad nauseum. Then take a trip to Rivervale with all your premade swatches and viscous mana. There are two brew barrels here and patterns as well. Start making kiola, both of you, as many as you can handle at a time and work together till your tailoring of wu's is complete.

I did ribbons up to 187. However, unless you plan to use them or have someone that will use them, it's a huge plat sink as the ribbon resell price is about 30% of buy price.

Not to mention you need to forage some stuff for the dyes, and need decent brewing (which you probably have, or will have).

It's very fast skill ups though if you have money, and a foraging source.
