  • low/med pelts for exp

Ok, I am a level 14 druid, working on my tailoring. I am currently at the point of making leather padding, and I have a buyer from these boards if I can ever get more than the 1 I have now, made.

    My question is this;

Is there a place that I can hunt to collect low/med quality hides and pelts for doing the padding, then studded, and still be able to get exp? Almost everything in Misty, to kill for tailoring, is green to me now, with an occasional lt blue youg kodiac.

    Thanks in advance.

Head to West Commonlands. The kodiaks there will be white or yellow to you.

Once those become green to you, if you still are looking for more, in the low 20s you should be able to, with care or with a group, hunt rockhoppers in Marus Seru for LQ rockhopper pelts. Also in the low 20s, Stonebrunt Mountains starts to become possible.

Another option around the mid- to high-teens would be East Karana. There are all kinds of cats and wolves to hunt and you can start in on the carrion spiders for silk at the same time. I'd hold of on the crags til 20-something, though, unless you have some friends with you.

For the time being, EC and WC are prolly your best bets. Just watch out for the rangers...they don't take kindly to folks killing the aminals!

Just be prepared in East Karana. That is where the high levels hang out to farm Silks. I am level 51; I go there. Even I get frustrated also from other even higher levels

At level 14, I'd suggest leveling up once in East Commons on the bears and after that heading to paludial caverns till you hit 21 or 22. While you won't get any pelts in paludial, the bandits there are excellent xp and have decent drops so you won't miss the cash too much. Leave Paludial and head to Marus Seru. Greyhoppers drop low quality rockhopper hides which can be made into padding (using either normal or shade silk).
When you decide to stop hunting Marus Seru (not sure how long you can hunt there) I'd probably move on to hunting sabertooth mobs in Kunark (their tough, but do drop cat pelts) or trying North and East Karana for pelt/silk dropping mobs (not sure if they'd give decent xp though). Once you hit 34 give stonebrunt a try, its kinda tough place to solo, and you don't find many people there otherwise.
Long range, try hunting Rockhoppers in Dawnshroud (drop hides, including superb and flawless that sell for quite a bit. Decent hunting for low 40s to low 50s), and finaly Poachers in Jagged Pine (decent xp, can be single pulled or quadded, and give good xp for high 40s-low 50s, lots of low-high quality bear/cat/wolf pelts.)
Tailoring, why did I ever start tailoring? *sob*

East Karanas will give you exp for a long time. I hunted there with my halfling druid from 10 to 22 and gathered more silks and cat pelts than I could use. Oh, and since making the leather padding and quivers (and used some crystalline silk I found on a vendor), my tailoring is 127. You get a lot of cat pelts. I charmed griffawns and had them kill the cats/gorge hound/spiders. It actually goes pretty fast.

              East Commons

The lions and Kodiaks in EC are fair and the lions drop alot of pelts ... some times sporadic though.

Nobody ever mentions WK as a good pelt hunting place, but if you are a tracker, WK is a great place to hunt cats: nobody hunts there, so you have the zone to yourself, and the area from the Qeynos Hills zone line to about the 2nd guard tower, then across to the line of hills, is just full of young lions and lionesses, as well as lions and lionesses, and a variety of bears, too. Yes, you do a bit more running, but you can pretty much kill non-stop, with no competition, and the young lions drop HQ skins a good percentage of the time.

                  Aren't there werewolves in WK?

I seem to recall having to kill a few that attacked me at some point, and they dropped nothing.

You can find werewolves in a number of zone’s you wouldn’t expect. They seem to be rare nighttime spawns. I’ve seen them in West Commons a couple of times and a few other zones but only a couple of times over a two year period. The reason I remember West Commons so well is because I was a young druid at the time, my first character, and the darn thing chased me from the druid ring all the way to the Ease Commons zone line. It scared the willies out of me. *grins*

Werewolves spawn near the zone to QHills in WK at night and path to the towers and back. They move fast and hit hard (for the levels that hunt there). I actually saw one on tracking in SK the other day. They can drop Werewolf pelts that are fomr some cloak quest.

Ok. I managed to get myself to EK. Depending on the monsters, I get varying exp, green cons to yellow, so that is working for me.

Next question is should I use the HQ cat pelts and attempt to make quivers at the same time I am making the padding, or should I skin them down to LQ pelts like I am doing with the MQ pelts and just use them to make more padding?

                        Thanks again.

I would skin them down and make padding, quivers aren't really great for skilling up. The patterns aren't cheap and successes won't fit into a container for later sale. Greyhopper boots and crystalline silk is the best way to go from 76 to 131 in my opinion.

I'll disagree-then again,I managed to make 100 Tailoring well before I stopped getting exp from lions.

I'd wander the Commonlands near Freeport with a few stacks of patterns.

Whack a lion, get any HQ cat? Quiver. Vendor is never far away, and you get most of the money back on a success.

Far less numbing than cured silk was. Ouch!

I guess it depends on the server.

On the tribunal server when ever I've been to east karana its totally deserted, almost all the karanas are totally deserted there most of the time.

They patch so often now its not really an option, from one vendor in WC I bought as many as 35 high quality cat pelts before. I stood there making quivers, selling quiver to him then buying more cat pelts, repeat.
